Rotella users.. c'mon down

Sorry, it's about oil but I wanted to chat about it and didn't see it discussed in the other oil threads

I put Rotella Synthetic in my bike last week and noticed that it ran hotter and shifted a little clunkier.. Has anyone else tried the Rotella and noticed this? Weather has not changed much, radiator is full and oil level was correct.

Needless to say I changed it out but I'm wondering if I was the only one??

Yup, you're the only one.

j/k

Each engine, like humans, is an individual and like us has personal preferences. My bike absolutely LOVES Rotella (the full syn type). OTOH it uses Mobil 1 and also shifts badly with it. My advice is to keep trying different brands until you find the one YOUR bike likes and then stick with it.

I agree, I was just seeing if anyone had the same experience as I did. I'm a fan of Rotella. I use it in my truck and my KTM but I guess my Sprint has different tastes with the full syn kind

I haven't noticed any negative issues with using the Rotella full synthetic in the last 24,000 miles. How many miles on your bike? Mine didn't start shifting truly smoothly until after it was time for the 12,000 mile service!

About the only oil I've tried so far that contributes to non-smooth shifts is the Mobile 1 15w-50 that Wally Mart sells in the gallon jugs. I usually run Rotella during the colder months because the 5w-40 characteristics make for easier starting.

It's got 8500 on it give or take. But it was obviously louder and clunkier with the Rotella. No worries, I swapped it out and everything is hunky dory now

Oil

For what it is worth , I just tried Silvolene Race 4T synthetic 20-50 in my 06 Sprint after running Mobil 4T. The bike hated it and shifting was noticeably worse.
I have changed out for Mobil 1 truck and diesel 5-40 which the bike likes.
I have a can of Rotella which I may try next .
