I did buy the fram at wally world, but, after doing some searching, and reading, I decided against using it. I did some more searching, and found the Mobil 1 M1-110 at my local autozone. I had gone there before, and they couldn't cross-reference a part# to match, and I thought I was out of luck. A little googling and searching on this site brought me to the Mobil1 M1-110. Called autozone back, and they had the M1-110. Took the fram back to wallyworld.

I've heard people say they've used fram for years with no problem, but, I spent good $$$ on my ST, and a little bit of extra time to drive back to town and buy a better filter seems worth it to me.

I did find some MX4T 10W-40 at autozone; was the best I could find in town, and I haven't found any negatives about running it.

And whoever serviced the thing last needs a good beating with the same wrench they used to tighten the plug and filter... I was about 2 seconds away from stabbing a screwdriver in the filter to get it off until the filter strapwrench finally got enough bite to finally get it loose. Completely crushed the bottom of the filter in the process, but, it was going in the trash anyways. And the plug wasn't any less loose. Thank goodness I bought a good set of metric allen head sockets.

I've run it about 20 miles since the oil change, and everything is running fine. Maybe a smidge smoother, but, could just be a placebo effect.

I'm taking it on about a 250mile trip tomorrow, so, we'll see how it goes.

My bonnie uses the same as RS

Both bikes to my surprise use the same filter.

As long as it gets the job done.

I've finally found a decent filter, locally, that's as good as the KandN (I think)

How much oil is supposed to be used for a change including the filter?

I'm not sure if the seach function here is broken or what, but I searched for "oil" and it came back with no matches... ?!?

The 1050s take just under a full 4 liters.

The 955 takes 4 liters, or a little over 4 quarts.

It has probably been disabled for the word "oil" so that everyone has to start a new oil thread ............ and then get abused for their trouble ... LOL

Mike,
I just did a search going back 1 year just the Sprint forum for all threads with "correct oil?" and more than 10 replies in them.

I got results of 25 hits.

There is nothing wrong with the search engine if you want to find oil threads. If you don't succeed 1st time just refine the search

I think you can't do a search on only 3 letters
so no results for
oil
abs
tla
etc

Oil useage

While on the subject of OIL.

I just got back from a 3 day trip, very low temperatures and lots of rain and gusty wind.

Up to the Bunya Mountains for a couple of nights in a rented house with 2 fireplaces. The dirt road up from Maidenwell was closed the day after we did it on our bikes. Fully laden two bikes two up in the mud!

Great fun eh wot! (And me on race tyres too)

Any way I checked my oil before I left and none used when I got back after riding two up in pretty appalling conditions and on mountain windy roads as well as open country.

My 955i 2004 Sprint now has 54,000kms and still goes very strong, g'box is good, slick smooth shifts no false neutrals.

This is all on Motul Semi synthetic 3100 T Gold 15 W 50
