2005-2006 Sprint ST Seat Removal/Installation Thread
Ok Ladies and Gents, we have all had our worries and frustrations putting this seat back on. But...for me it's easy. That leads me to the question that is it possible we have different setups? I keep hearing about these clip difficulties and it has me stumped??? Lining up the cheap clips etc...

I am suggesting that we start a photo driven installation pictoral that solves this problem once and for all. My seat has the clips, but the nuts/screws (allen screws) screw right into a predrilled hole in the aft part of the frame. To me it's not difficult at all. I will volunteer to take step by step photos to help RAT members out if you all think it's beneficial. Your thoughts?

With all the problems I read about, I have a hard time picturing (in my mind) what causes them when it seems so easy. Yes, a horrible design, but so easy to install all the same. Would this help?

So where is the photo? Inquiring minds want to know.
For the record, I don't have a problem with the seat screws either. However, I seriously doubt that your set up is different than the rest of the fleet. Show us.

Dude I was just asking a question if this would be useful? ha ha I haven't even began to start this yet, just checking interest.

This ain't McDonalds, but I am willing to try it tomorrow night after work. Man you work fast! I agree, I think all are the same and have trouble seeing what is the problem myself. Pictures can help many people.

Since nobody has offered it up, I thought I would. Oldndumb man you work fast! I'm not so sure your name describes you ha ha

Dude
As a lot of posters on this forum know, I have been harsh with people complaining about the seat set up in the past. However, after reading so many complaints, I have had a change of heart.
Even though there are many who do not have any difficulty with it, there are just as many, if not more, who absolutey do. That is why I have changed the tone of my responses to the seat critics and now try to offer advice.
The only thing I can't figure out is why they keep wanting to go under the seat so often.
OBTW, there has been a picture of the seat attach holes in my album for a while now.

might we be confusing the
2005-06 seat securing, screws on the side
with
2007 seat securing, two darn screws under the darn seat at the darn rear
or am I confused too
my 2007 has 2 screws that can only be reached by pulling/pushing back the seat body at the rear and are a pain toget back in

Take another look. The 05-06 seat attach method is the same as the 07. If you look back through the threads there is a plethoria of advice. Bottom line is that the screws are at an angle, they engage a clip nut, and require minimum pressure and torque.

Ah, I see - so the 05-06 models have the bolts at the rear as well, so what are those things I see on the sides of the o5-06? (PS I have 07 so not familiar with 05-06)

I have a Nelson-Rigg strap tank bag I use quite a bit. The aft securing strap has to be secured under the seat. That is the only reason my seat gets removed. Being the 05-06 gas tanks are plastic, a magnet type bag just won't stick (duh!). I have left the strap installed even when the bag was not on the bike, but it looks stooopid with this strap hanging between my legs. So, off came the seat and strap.

oldndumb, that is a sharp looking grill on the lower fairing in your profile pictures!
