I'm looking at selling the Bonneville and getting a Sprint. This is the ad in a local paper-
Triumph Sprint RS Sportbike. 955cc inline 3, very fast, very smooth. This bike is adult owned and garage kept, has 7,000 miles, never ridden hard, never been down. Rear tire is almost new, has factory seat cowl, ready to ride. Pictures available upon request, just email me. $4800

Does that sound like a good deal, I haven't seen it yet. Also is the pillion seat reasonably comfortable. I'm 70 and my wife is 65 so we need a bit more comfort than when we were 20. How would this compare to the Bonny for comfort on 100 mile trips?

You didn't mention the year of the RS Stu.
As for comfort, well have you much experience with a sport bike? Your legs are gonna be cramped and you'll be leaning forward from the waist, thus putting pressure on your wrists and hands until you can develop the muscles in your abdomen, back and inner thighs. If you're in good physical shape and have well toned muscles you should be okay for 100 mile jaunts. In all honesty the Sprints are not the most comfortable bike for passengers.

They are a hell of a lot of fun to ride though and they're about the best sportbike option for us geezers. :)

Stu,

Absolutly NOT!!!!

The bike is worth $3500 tops!!

If you do get it, you'll need either a top box for her to rest on, or Corbin makes a "gunfight and lady" seat with a passenger backrest.

At her age, I don't think hangin' on for dear life would be too much fun :-D

good Luck

Stu, you also didn't mention your weight and height nor did you mention your reason for wanting a sport type bike. Like Omaz said, the Sprints are more aggressive ergonomically and are really built more for sport riders who want to do some touring more than the other way around. The pillion comfort is as good as you'll likely get on this type of bike. If it doesn't already have one, get either the OEM gel touring seat or an after-market like a Sargent which will make it more comfy for both of you.

If you're trying to avoid the cruiser category and you're over '6 tall, you might want to look at the Tiger. Same engine, better front suspension and a more upright riding position. I love my Sprint but I ride it like a sport bike only for longer distances than pure sporters.

Hope you find what you're both looking for.

:-D

Hi stu,

As for the years 02 onwards had the motor with more ponies and slightly quieter. You can tell by the colour of the crankcase. Black = 02 ->

Ergonomically I find them pretty good for up to an hour and a half, then I need a break. FWIW I am 48yo 6'2" 87kg. Average shape, average fitness.

I do two up all the time with my wife FWIW 46yo 5'1" 48kg. She is pretty fit and prefers to take a break then as well. Her knees get a bit cramped after that.

I did ab crunches prior to buying the RS to be able to hold myself up and not put the weight on my wrists all of the time.

They are a great sports oriented bike that is excellent for two up twisties and running around.

I am not sure that I would want to do a 10 hour tour in a day. My body wouldn't take it well :(

You can always get a better seat (Corbin or Gel) but my ar5e is not the problem, it is mainly between the shoulder blades for me.

You can always get risers or ST bars as some do.

Overall the RS is undoubtedly the best bike that I have ever owned.

Fast 220kph+, predictable in the bumpy corners, reliable, easy to work on, great rock solid handling, economical to boot.

Maybe an ST is more what your after ?? No disrespect, but I am not sure that my body wouldn't thank me at 70 on the RS.

 and they look fab as well. I obviously cannot comment on the $. and yellow is the fastest colour BTW
