Just drove my brand new stock ST for the first time on the turnpike for a few miles. I was surprised that I could hear the engine, because I am used to Jap in-line fours with stock exhaust (can't really hear the engine at 70 mph). I was wearing ear plugs at the time too.

This makes me think the TOR may be annoyingly loud at cruise / long trips.

True or False?

MD

On my RS I have a TOR carbon can.

I wouldn't say that it "drones" - not like a muzzy or the like on a Jap bike (loud and raspy) - it more blurbles and growls.

Mine is quite pleasing (to me) and not too loud from behind, but when you wind it up past 6500/7000 it really has a lovely triple howl.

I really like mine.. :-D

I concur with Steven mine is the same.

It is not an unpleasant drone by any means.

Also the triple is not buzzy like Jap fours.

The '05+TOR doesn't make a lot of noise unless the throttle is open and even then "a lot" is debatable.

It does have a resonance around 3000 RPM that you will notice in slow traffic.

I have a TOR on my '06 ST. I concur with everything that was posted so far. I like the exhaust note that it gives the bike.

Pretty much what everyone's said here. It has a nice howl to it especially at the 5K plus range but it's still fairly subtle compared to the Trident which has a beautiful note but is a few hundred $ more and apparently a little more difficult to install. More importantly, it adds a little hp and opens up the mid-range a bit. It won't bother you on the freeway (nor likely other drivers either. )

One thing I do notice is that it takes a little while to warm up. When you first fire up cold, it doesn't sound much different than the stock. But once it heats up and expands a little, that growl starts to show up.
Not a bad can for the $$.

p.s. I actually like that 'groan' it has in the 2800 - 3300 range! :-D

The noise you hear with the stock pipe comes from the air box. With the TOR you start to hear some exhaust note as well. It is very pleasent, but then is gone again as soon as I put my ear plugs in. :???:

I usually wear earplugs and at 60mph plus speeds I don't hardly hear the TOR can. Romping thru the gears I hear it fine and boy does it sound swell!

Also agree that the 05 w/ TOR is far from obnoxious. Weaving through town/traffic it's not much different to stock; in the canyons it has an encouraging tone/volume both under accel and on decel; on the freeway I'm mostly hearing wind noise. But, I always wear ear plugs so YMMV.
