Also -
I can't replace the stripped bolt, and I don't want to use a new bolt from the SW Motech mount kit for fear of seriously screwing something up, so I've left the 1 bolt out of the ring assembly for the time being (it;s the bolt located at about 8 o'clock on the ring). Is there any inherent danger or problems with running the bike with one of those bolts out? I don't see why there would be, but who knows.

Man that is bad news. I'd try first with your dealer but also send off a letter to Triumph USA to inform them of the problem because it sounds like a factory installation error and they should be told about it.
I doubt that missing one bolt would cause any problems. Good luck getting it sorted.

I know they are not everybody's favorite tool, but what about using an 'easy-out' and just buying a replacement bolt from the dealer or a local hardware store if you can find a exact match. Just make sure you have fresh threads still in the cap. That being said, I'm with you in that you shouldn't have this issue in the first place

Oh, it's out - I was able to get it out and inspect the threads on the factory bolt - not good. Looks like it was jammed in there and then torqued down. I have a new bolt for the SW Motech kit, but I don't want to bolt it back in if the housing threading is jacked up, otherwise then I'll have 2 destroyed bolts and it will still need to be fixed.

Noob --- that's good. Guess you could use a tap/die set and make some new threads. Again, sucks that you should have to go thru all the trouble. I would like to use the same setup you purchased for bike also but have not spent the $ yet. Hope I don't have the same problem!
By the way, I don't know but I would think that the gascap assembly was done at the factory. I'm guessing that the dealer probably doesn't have to mess it. :???:

Tap and die set, on a brand new motorcycle I bought 2 months ago? No way, this is getting fixed for free.

I guess I don't understand. What do you mean by "seriously jacked"? Were the threads damaged, or was the head stripped?
And if one screw is damaged, why do you think the whole ring needs to be replaced?
Did the screw in question require more force to remove as compared to the others?

One bolt required more force to remove - when I got it out, the threads are deformed and chewed up, like it was misthreaded then forced tight with a power driver. I'm thinking the whole ring needs to be replaced, because whatever bolt goes in there next may get chewed up by the broken threading in the ring - just a guess, though?

I'm not presently located where I can look at my bike or a parts fische, and relying on memory.
I don't thing the screw you are talking about threads into the filler ring. I think it threads into an insert which is encapsulated in the fuel tank material. If I am correct, the threads in the insert would have to be chased (repaired), or the insert replaced. Failing that, the tank would need to be replaced.
Again, I could be wrong. Maybe another poster will look at their tank and confirm or correct me.
