Hi there

Just thought I would ask on this fine forum if anyone is planning on riding to the motogp at Philip Island this year? I live in Sydney and have missed the last two years due to lack of riding partners and being generally disorganised so I'm planning this way in advance in order to force myself down there. I know it will probably rain, I've probably left it too late to book a room anywhere and the race will be over in a flash but I just love the memories when I get back from long(ish) rides.

If anyone is planning on riding down that way, and they wouldn't mind a mostly inoffensive pom along for the ride please let me know.

cheers,
Dylan

G'day Dylan.

Definitely going this year - haven't decided if I will fly down or ride down, got some mates doing both. Would prefer to ride, so stay in touch. I am sure there will be a mob from this list riding down..

Been camping on the island ( both supers and GP ) about 10 times now - just love it..

Nah, you just need to hold you breath for the wet bits :-)

I'm definitely going. Tickets are on order, house is booked (or so I'm told). Just don't know when I or my mates will be leaving.

I usually do it as one big day ride (about 1040km), in about 12 1/2 hrs elapsed.

Will post my dates when they're decided, so if anyone else from Sydney (or elsewhere) doesn't mind a reasonable length day ride they'll be more than welcome to ride for the company. I tend to do ~120kph everywhere except towns, and 140kph on back roads that aren't patrolled.

Russ

I'm in for the ride... at the least!

nothing like playing in the hills here!

not sure if i will have the time off for the weekend, guess i'll play it by ear ( if my new contract doesn't happen... i'm going to have all the spare time you could want! )

Cheers, G :-D

Camping sounds cool - which is the better campsite?

Highside or Trackside?

I'm guessing track side as there are less cars and it's closer to the action.

I assume also there are activities during the nights.. or are they pretty strict on noise etc?

update.. just booked my tickets and the trackside camping - can't wait

Cheers

Bump

Hi there

Just bumping this thread, seeing if anyone else is keen on the ride down to the island. I'm thinking, doing it on one day is going to be too much for me and my lardy arse so I'm gunning for 2 days each way with a spot of camping along the way, aiming to avoid Roo dodging if I can help it as well.

harrya13, are you still keen?

It's character building as they say . Roo dodging is easy
Syd - Queanbeyan on Fwy in the morning
Q to Cann River (lunch at Bombala or Cann River)
Last stint to island via leongatha or korumba (not too many roos around here).

All up 1040k from western sydney.

Don't worry about your "lardy arse" you'd be in good company
Here's a route that combines slab and good high speed roads to mix it up a bit.
Sydney to Phillip Island Route Map

This is likely to be my route down on the Thurs before the race.
