The island: the other one - IoM is always the first :)
guys,
consider me a possible, from here in Canberra. Since it will be the first GP during which I am a biker in Aus (as opposed to many years in UK), I reckon I owe it to myself to go. used to go as a day trip from Melbourne, but so much better to be riding down.
Here's a link to some of my oics from last year's GP, etc
http://photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=450426
cheers,
Dave
PS - getting my new 06 Sprint ST TOMORROW !!!!!

Phillip Island here I come!
Yup, the wife and I are riding down in a leisurely manner, taking the opportunity to visit family and friends along the way. We'll be taking it fairly easy, the longest day will be 420km, as Liz hasn't ever done a multiday trip before and if she's happy, I'm happy.
Bellingen - Tamworth - Orange - Gundagai - Bombala - Bairnsdale - Phillip Island.
Had everything booked in Feb!

Trackside campsite is the one if you are planning to camp NO CARS and entertainment at night. It is definitely not quiet.
But remember it is Victoria and more to the piont Phillip Island, no way of knowing what the weather will be doing. They don't call turn 5 Siberia for nothing.
A gang of us have rented a house for the weekend, if you are stuck we can always sqeeeeeze one more in, especially a TriumphRat.Net member.

for Dylan and Ruscook
Hi guys,
I am now confirmed to ride down to the Island and planning to do so on the Thursday. If either of both of you want to RV in the Canberra area, I would be pleased to have the company of some more Sprint riders. PM me if you are interested please.
cheers,
Dave - Red 06 Sprint

Thanks for the offer Dave. I'm now heading down with one of my mates I'll be staying with, (to meet 2 others) at Bombala on the Wed night after work.
This way we split the 1000km ride and can do some more interesting stuff in the south Gippsland area on the way to the track :-)
Hopefully will catch up with some RATS while I'm there.

Me too.
HI Dave and Russ, and anyone else riding down.
I aim to leave Sydney early on Thurs Morning, Dave which way are you planning on going? We could meet along the way??
I think I am going to try and take the coastal road, Sydney, Wollongong, first night stay at Eden perhaps, the the next day Bairnsdale, Sale and the island. I have camping trackside (help!). Not done a GP here either, I'm also from the UK so this will be my first time there.
If anyone want to hook up down there it would be great to put some faces to names, and as I'm riding down there on my own I'll probably be up for some banter when I arrive.
Stoner has to finish one point ahead of Flossie to wrap it up. Personally I hope the afro nails this race so we have some decent action, last weeks race was just what the doctor ordered (excuse the pun).

all roads lead to the Island...
Hi Dylan,
My plan would be to go Canberra to Cooma by Monaro Highway - part of the route shown in this thread by Russ Cook. (Russ - thanks for your reply - safe riding). see Google Map - Sydney to Phillip Island Routemap.
I am somewhat flexible re the route, but I reckon the route Russ shows in his map would be good. I often travel the Monaro down to near Cooma from Canberra. The scenery is stunning and that stretch is an easy ride with sweeping corners - are you tempted yet?
Will PM you with my mobile details.
cheers,
Dave
PS doing a Stay Upright M.A.S.T.E.R.S. course tomorrow - 3hr of theory done tonight

Hi Dave
Something like this:
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&h...=UTF8&z=9&om=1
(hope that link works).
Yeah, that could be good too, but I can't see how I could get down to you in time for Thursday morning, that's when I am leaving. I think it would take at least 4 hours. What time are you leaving? Otherwise If you are stopping on the way then perhaps we could meet up on the Friday somewhere?
How did the course go btw? Sounds good.

Dylan, Snoothlennie
It is going to be a big weekend, I believe the trackside camp site is booked out, so if your camping it will the highsde ground.
I will drop you an PM with my contact details, if your stuck you I'm sure we could find space for you to pitch tents at the house we have rented.

G'day Smegin and Dylan,
Smegin - thanks a lot and as you know, I have PMd on your kind offer.
Dylan - I'll PM you, and I think I can arrange an RV with you for the Canberra - Eden leg and I think an overnight around there would be a good plan.
Will be in touch,
cheers,
Dave
