Hey all,

I have seriously had enough of this! My top box has leaked since day one, and it is really getting frustrating as I keep all my around town needs in there. You know, gloves, manual, insurance, registration, jacket liner, etc.

I don't have a garage to park it in, so it is out on the drive most of the the summer. And this year it has rained more than I can ever remember, so it is always getting water in it.

The bike sets on the side stand, and the water always seems to collect on the low side of the trunk. The side boxes seem to collect too, but not at the rate of the top.

Does anyone know of a fix? I am pretty sure Triumph doesn't have one.

Thanx,

rash

Is the rubber gasket that seals the box shrunken or missing? It seems to me that that's the only possible point of water entry.

I'm sure Triumph does not offer the gasket as a replacement part, so maybe a little digging in an auto parts store for some door weather stripping.

perhaps drill a small drain hole in the low end of the box if all else fails?

or maybe a big garbage bag wrapped around the box.

Empty your case, dust the inside with baby/talcum powder, close it up, and then let the hose rain down on it for a few seconds. You should be able to tell where it's leaking because it'll leave streaks in the baby powder.

The water is coming in mostly through the lower half of the hinges. The rubber boot collects water and it goes right through the bolt holes.

I pulled my hinges and latches off and used silicone sealer on everything. When you get the hinges bolted back on the bottom half, try to fill the boot up with sealer the best that you can.

This should work to keep most of the water out.

Do what BikerDawg says. I had some leakage from the top hinges, but mostly from the bottom rubber boot. Some silicone sealant will seal your trunk up tighter than a tube tied virgin.
