Unfortunately, my '06 Sprint ST (ABS) did not come with an owner's manual. Through trial and error, I've figured out how to reset the trip meters and set the clock (I think). The rest of the settings, other than top speed, are a bit mysterious. Any advice on how to control and interpret these other features would be much appreciated.

Secondly, I've read through as many threads as I could find concerning tire pressure and found little consensus. The bike is fitted with Dunlop "sportmax qualifiers" but I can not find any notation for suggested pressure on either tire. My dealer suggested 42psi for the rear and 36psi for the front. Currently, I have the front at 35, the rear at 40 and the bike seems to handle fine. Is anybody else running these tires and do these pressures seem reasonable?

Thanks again.

That tire pressure sounds about right. Why didn't you make your dealer get you a manual?

Tyre pressure is a personal animal. It depends on your style of riding - twisties (fast and furious), touring (long and strong), weight (two up and loaded).

I mainly do fast twisties two up unloaded and have tried pressures down to 36 front (remains about the same for me) & 35 up to 42 on the rear. I have BT014's front and rear.

I personally prefer around 39/40 for my style (fast), and two up. I'm 90kg and my wife is 48kg. My (RS) suspension is set to the firmest setting.

Too low pressure and it feels a bit sloppy for my liking. Too much flex in the hard fast corners.

Try a few different settings and pressures and do what is good for you.

IMO there is not one setting that suits all styles and types of conditions.

DaveM : will tell you his yard stick, but if he had his way he would have Nitrogen in his BT002's

And here I was thinking Dave was full of hot air, only to find it's nitrogen :-D

Seriously Dave knows his rubber - hmmm maybe we should change his name to rubbermaid :hammer: :hammer:

matto67,
my esteemed coleagues are quite right (well not about me of course) about tyre pressures.

Personally I run 33psi front & 36psi rear when solo and add 1 psi to the front and 2 psi to the rear.

At these pressures I get max grip and good handling characteristics which is what I want most from my tyres.

I am running these pressures in my BT 002's and also in Pilot Powers.

If I was doing a two up touring trip I would use Pilot Powers and have 34 or 35 psi front and 38 or 39 psi rear.

It is important and commonly missed that the side wall tyre ratings and your manual state 36 & 42 respectively for a MAX load only................................

that is two up with luggage.

Most of you would not normally be riding with this sort of load very often and should therefore not use maximum pressures.

By the way I am a tad over 220lbs or 104 kilos.

I ride 99% of the time in the mountains often two up.

And Russ and Steve I AM full of hot air! :-D

I have a small air compressor in my garage and check my pressures with a high quality pressure guage BEFORE EVERY ride. I don't use nitrogen as I am frequently adding or dropping 1 or 2 psi.

It is something I always do as it makes so much difference to the ride handling and grip of your tyres.

I just took a 2K mile trip two up and the bags fully loaded. I started the trip with 38 psi front and 40 psi rear but did not like the handling in the twisties at all. For day two I adjusted to 36 psi front and 38 psi rear and found it to be better but still not quite right. I ended up at 35 psi front and 38 rear and found those pressures to work just about perfectly in the twisties and on the freeways. I ride solo at 33 front and 35 rear. I have the Bridgestones BTW and the trip was on my 99.
