Can someone explain how the fastening system on the factory panniers operates? Pictures would be nice if any are available.
TIA

It grabs the side rails. To hooks lay on top of the rails, then when you close the handle down, two hooks inside the luggage clap up on the rails. Like a bite. All on the back side of the luggage case. I have some pics in my profile.

Thank you very much. I thought it must be something along those lines.

That is how the bgs attach to the rail. Of course, if you are interested in how the locking mechanism works, just check out YouTube.

I'm not sure if the '05s are any different than the '07s but one other thing I was warned about was for both fastening the pannier to the rail and closing the lid that you should hold the key in the 'open' position and push the locking handle down, then release the key rather than 'snapping' the handle into place. Same with closing the lid.

Maybe it was an overly cautious warning but after seeing the youtube video and knowing that you can't get them re-keyed to your current set, I'd rather not take the chance that the mechanisms are that delicate and easily broken.

Any idea what search words you used to find it on YouTube? I can't seem to find the right combo.

Thanks

Sorry, I was exercising some dark humor.

Obviously, I can not get the link to work. Look back through the threads for and you will find it. It is a video that shows some smart asses demonstrating to the world how to open Triumph luggage.

I found the thread you mentioned, the YouTube link it refers to has also been removed.

The reasons for my query, I would like to make a similar system for the soft luggage I have. To use it now, a strap needs to be under the seat. So needless to say it is hard to remove and replace.

Thanks for your help. Maybe someone else will read this thread that has some photos showing the bag mounting latches etc.
