Hello one and all.i spent a bit of time on T5net many years back, having ridden a 509 and then a 2000 speed triple, right up until a couple of weeks ago.I had been looking at the Sprint for a while, determined not to buy new again after the shock of selling my S3 for £2950,having paid near enough £8k new.
Several things concerned me,including the recalls on the new Sprint and the actual look of the only one i had seen (silver).
however, since i do a fair few miles from time to time, spain,France,UK,with the missus i needed to move on from the S3 and the VFR that i also had.So...sold them both and bought an '06 sprint in blue with luggage, got a good price on a 3000 mile immaculate bike with not a mark on it.
Impressions, very fast very quickly, excellent comfort, bad wind blast from the standard screen.Gearbox a bit lumpy at the moment (same with the S3 until a few thousand miles on)handling on standard setting is fine, although a bit wallowy two up,with just myself it carves corners better than either the S3 or the VFR.Good brakes,no problems so far in that department, just luck of the draw maybe?headlight unspectacular, instruments gimmicky but good.
looks? i love it,dont know what i was thinking of,its a beautiful bike.
it thrashes the VFR which i thought of as a fine motorcycle, the engine just creamy compared to the V4,with the definite feel of a triumph triple but no soft spot in the injection like the Speed triple at 3500 RPM,standard rear tyre seems very squared off although i pasted out the chicken strips soon enough.
really very very pleased to have bought this bike,i would strongly reccomend it to anyone, also seeking advice on the screen,I am 6'3",and get a lot of blast at the moment,is the Jack lilley black double bubble any good?anyone?

Rob,
welcome back and I think you will be pleased with you new bike. My first Trumpy was a T595 and I am amazed at the difference in the Daytona and my Sprint. My great grand pop was from Skye and was a soldier in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, it is a great part of the world you come from. As for the screen I don't know, but someone else on this forum will be able to help. Anyway safe riding,
Cya The Tankman

Great review even with limited miles you have travelled. I'm enjoying my bike approaching the 10K mark. Ride safe and I too am interested in a taller windshield.

Cheers Tankman, you're right about this part of the world, when its good its the best,we have been so very fortunate the last few months to have clear skies, some of the best roads in Europe here,no traffic later in the year, and you know the other thing about the Sprint,it has improved my overtaking by one huge leap, just pop open the thorttle and you are there without any hesitation, what a cracking bike!
I would imagine that another tyre brand would be a good idea,Highland roads can be very abrasive though,so tyre life is pretty short,it sounds like people reccomend michelins (pilots?) or the newer 021''s? what thinkest thou?
Steven,Dave and BMW,thank you for your kind welcome,i have always found Triumph people to be a cut above the 'riff raff' :-D

Rob
My brother in law is 6'4 and has an 05 sprint as well, he's jsut fitted the new Triumph flip/touring screen and recons it makes the difference. Take a look on the Triumph web site.
Congrats on your choice of bike.

thanks RDE,
i had a look at them but they are a bit sensible looking,if the black bubble screen works i would prefer that kind of thing, the lines of the original screen look great, its just that it doesnt work well for me,i got rid of the Speed triple partly for the fact that i was getting tired of being punished over 85MPH for any period of time.tucking right down on the sprint is a bit better, but i like to be a bit up on the pegs and getting a good view of the road ahead.just being cautious with the pennies at this point, trying to get the best for the bike.
