Deano, just curious... there was too much slack in the throttle cable, or not enough?

Welcome deano1050.

I have had the same experience with the clunky gear box @ low rpm situations (like city traffic) and I'm glad to hear from other riders that this smooths out over time. I haven't had that much trouble with the throttle though. I think the dealer tech tightened it before I picked it up so maybe I avoided most of that issue.

Have fun on the new machine.

Deano;

With 8,000 miles on my '03, the gearbox is much better than when I got it last year with 4,000 mi.

Also, when shifting from 1st to 2nd mine can still be somewhat clunky, especially if I pull in the clutch too far. Try just barely pulling it in, that should help as well. :wink:

I found this to be the cure for smooth shifting regardless of bike and/or gearbox. You only need to pull the clutch all the way in for take off from stand still, otherwise just a small pull will be enough to disengage the plates at speed and will give you a much smoother shift.
