I am with the camp that says the new ST is not where I will be going in the future. I specifically dislike the faceted look on many bikes and cars and wonder why Triumph felt they had to adopt the UJM look. As someone else said, I can't tell many bikes apart as they all have these pointy/facet type design cues.
The 04 and down sprint doesn't look like any other bike, and in these parts no one has even seen an ST. The 05 ST looks like many UJMs and defeats one of the reasons I bought an ST and that is that it didn''t lookk like a faceted crotch rocket.
Maybe I'm getting old, but I like it the way it was.
Of all the things they could have changed on the bike, I don;t think looks should have been on the top of the list. Adding more power seems to be mostly marketing hype... I say this because the ST didn;t need more power... it already runs like rocket.... more braking power is always good... the new bags had better be a huge improvement over the old... and one complaint echoed in many forums and reviews was the riding ergos and they didn;t address this at all.. so.. to me, the '05 was a marketing upgrade more than a complete over haul...
Again, I am perplexed as to why T decided to become yet another look alike bike..... sales will tell.... if they increase sales over previous years numbers, that will tell the tale and what I think won;t matter a tinkers *****.....

Guys, i do not post here too often. I am going to keep my 03 for a while, i actually bought it originally because it was a great deal( off somebody who only had it for a month and a half and 185 miles).I don't tour (300 miles max)i bought it to scratch hence i never installed the panniers instead i got the clary sport undertail and triumph off road cans. The 99-04 rocks, it always stands out when i go riding with my boys i don't know if the 05 will quite do that.

The new bikes look like the Transformer toys. I love the looks of my ST and think it has plenty of power. Besides, they are cheap if you go nose-to-nose with other bikes. I got my '02 for $7900 brand new, any other comparable bike is at least 3k more. I am keeping mine until the wheels fall off.

Lefty, I love my Sprint but 618 miles on the stock seat??!!!?? You're my hero!

I don't seem to have a problem with the stock seat. I've done many 500+ mile trips also. The reason could be that I'm always in the mountains shifting in my seat, sise to side, front to back, depending on the curve's tightness and uphill or downhill. But if I were to get sore, believe me, I would change that seat.

Okie dokie. Might as well be controversial for my first post. Now that I've read this thread, I just have to say that I kinda like the looks of the new one.. :-D
I like the looks of the old one as well, but there are a few differences that still set it apart from the UJM bikes. The lines flow a bit better, are less angular, and generally have a little less of a swooping down look, at least in my eyes.
I had considered the FJR, but couldn't get past its looks.
Up until earlier today, I had pretty much decided upon the Ducati ST4S, but then heard some rumors which gave me pause, and thus, am now considering an '05 sprint. It seems perfect other than one thing. No ABS. As much as I never want to have to use the ABS system, now that it exists, I won't be on a bike without it. I recently heard a rumor that over the course of '05, an ABS version will be introduced. Has anyone heard anything to substantiate this? If it's true, I'll hang tight until next year, and go with the Sprint.
Thanks for your input!
Adam

Well, did some more searching. Found some of the back threads here on ABS. Seems like it's a love it or hate it kind of thing, but either way, it's coming as an option. Good stuff. I'll see y'all around on a Sprint when it does.
