Crazy story I just posted on the local BC forum.
here's the post.
__________________________________________________ ______
please excuse me if the details aren't totally clear... this is second hand pass on and I just found out about this last night:
my cousin (doesn't ride) was travelling on the freeway on the island to the ferry to head back to the horseshoe ferry.
he said he was rolling at about 120kph in his jeep Liberty when he noticed a black sportbike flying up behind him hard and fast. The bike made a couple quick turns and blew past him at about 160-180kph the guy was wearing tshirt and jeans.
So when my cousin rounded the next bend all he could see was smoke and the black bike spinning on its side sliding "forever" up the road. He pulled over in a total panic. and was trying to locate the rider. he had already dialed 911.
He said he looked everywhere for him. then finally totally puzzled.
he looked over a ditch and up a huge embankment, he starts climbing.... over the meridian, and spots the guy lying in the middle of the 2 oncoming lanes. cars are now screeching to a halt... one just barely stops a few feet in front of the rider. major accidents are very close to occuring. My cousin said the guy was a mess.
my cousin was late and parked in a dangerous spot, couldnt do much more. headed for the ferry.
anyway he had left all his info with 911. a cop called him a few days later and
said the guy made it but was in really rough shape.
just wondering if anyone knows anymore about this guy and how he's doing?
on a lighter note: my cousin wanted to buy a bike has been talking about it for a couple of years. well his minds changed after this incident.
also he used to laugh at me when he saw my in my "black leather power rangers outfit" his minds changed about that too.

.... yep roadrash is one of the most painful and potentially disfiguring injuries you can get.
It makes my blood run cold to see some of the morons out there in t shirts,no gloves, etc. Worse is when they have some pretty young pillion who has no idea what danger they are in.

I get very angry when I see the pillion with no protective gear. I get even more angry when I see a rider with a helmet and the passenger with nothing.

Talk about angry. A few weeks ago a guy went cruising by my place of work on his Harley with a seven or eight year old girl riding pillion.
She was wearing a helmet but was in shorty shorts, flipflops and a tank top. I was temped to call the police and report the guy for child endangerment.

thats brutal. yeah there's laws about kids in car seats. but any jackass can put his kid on a motorbike with no protection.
to top it off on a bike that can't brake or turn....
like riding a freight train.

++1 Grant,
this is a hobby horse of mine.
You only have to see it in hospital which I have on more than one occasion to know you should be as well armoured and covered as you can afford.
I hope the poor guy recovers quickly but he will be scarred for life and will never ride in the skin so to speak again.

You guys should get over yourselves. There are plenty of people who hate us for riding bikes. If I want to ride naked it's my business, if your blood boils because of someone elses personal choice in riding attire you need to take a look at your priorities.

XTR,
The free choice thing....................right.
Personal choices affect others as well not just yourself that's the thing.
Perhaps you need to get over yourself as well seeing you are being as judgemental as you claim we are.

XTR I could give a rats ass what any adult chooses to wear or not wear when riding a bike. It's their choice. I do however feel that a child has no place on the back of a motorcycle, especially one as ill clothed as the little girl I cited in my previous post.
