The chain rollers on my ST has a copper hue with slight silver on the edges. Is this normal? No rust anywhere and the sprockets look new. The clock shows 1600 miles. (verified)

Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim,
My chain does not have any of the discoloration you speak of. If it is the stock chain, it sounds like it was too tight for a period of time. You may need a new chain and possibly a set of sprockets. A friend of mine whom is also a Triumphrat member (Pushr0d) just did the research on the chains and the D.I.D. x-ring and RK x-ring were the best value. Page 571, Street, Drive category of this catalog http://www.powersportrider.com/cgi-bin/zcatjpg shows the RK which appears to be the best deal around. You can do a search here and on T595.net and find many people happy with JT Sprockets and Renthals. I purchased a JT 18 tooth and am very pleased with it!
:-D
I know I am talking about $200 here, so if you think that it they are still good and just want peace of mind, call your local motorcycle shop and ask how much they will charge to inspect the chain and 2 sprockets.
My .02

Just found this thread. I also have the same discolouration on my chain. I don't think mine is from overheating, it looks more like the chain had a copper coloured coating on it from the factory which is just worn - I could be wrong though but you are talking significant heat to generate a colour change. You would probably smell burning chain lube before hand - if there was any there. :hammer:

However, this site may be worth checking out if you are worried: http://www.sprocketcenter.com/c/1240...sst-99-07.html
I bought an 18t sprocket from them and they were very helpful. I am seriously considering a new chain because mine has spat out two 'o' rings. I am leaning towards the RK simply because it is looks to be better value than a DID. I would love the bling but would have trouble justifying it.

That said, I would seriously doubt you need a new chain with such low milage. Check you "o" rings carefully after cleaning you chain, if they look in good condition its highly unlikely that you have an overheated chain.

Phil,

Thanks! I'm still trying to sort out my new ride. The last thing I wanted to spend$$ on right now was a new chain. I will be installing the 18T.

If you only need the chain, I found better prices than both of those links.

You could buy your gold bling chain for less than the standard XSO chain HERE
And if you want the non-gold standard model that price is HERE
These are both 108 link chains because that's what MY RS uses. :-D

This WON'T apply to you Sprint riders, but if you have the Triumph DSSA (RS and 1 Daytona model) the rear sprocket from a GSXR 1000 is the SAME part as the Triumph unit.......EXACTLY the same. I got my replacement rear 44 tooth sprocket for $28.00! Not the $98.00 Triumph wanted. Just an FYI.
