Just dropping by from the the Tiger forums, sorry for the double post, but thought you should be aware of this...

Anyone with OEM luggage on their Sprint 1050 have a look at this video on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9lM2TGdKTk

very worrying...

WOW.....after reading a post the other day about how some people have had them come open while riding this makes it even more worrysome

That is not good- although it doesn't surprise me. I wouldn't leave valuables in them anyway...

I see the video showing some able to get the quick-release grip open but are they able to open the pannier lid and gain access to the contents? I'm not overly worried about theft; if someone really wants some t-shirts, socks and underwear that bad, I guess they can have it. The comment about them flying open while riding though, that's a bit scary.

If I remember correctly, the luggage popping open was an isolated event that one of the sprint riders on this forum experienced - I don't think it's a wide spread issue.

Very worrisome. But... my luggage was so tight when I first got mine that I bent the handles a little bit while trying to release those latches. The result is that the gap indicated in that video doesn't exist. I used a dremel on the back of the luggage bars to make those latches work a little better.

The bike in the youtube vid is a tiger not a sprint - the bags are interchangable between both models.

I just tried this and it worked on my bags. it looks like a preliminary fix would be to add material to the top of the carry handle to lessen the gap. JB Weld would probably work.

Luckily I have a Scorpio Alarm with perimeter sensor. The perimeter can be armed or disarmed in addition to the regular alarm and also is sensitivity adjustable. Thus, can alert/alarm before they even get to the bag! :-D
