The light came on last night. The mileage just ticked over 6,000.

I have noticed a problem with low rpm surging. It's worse when the weather is warm. There's a flat spot in the lower rpm range, but at times it almost feels like I've dropped a cylinder and I have to get the motor around 4k rpms before I feel that third cylinder kick in.
Recently, when riding around 5k rpms and I hit it hard, there's a slight hesitation, almost like it's slipping. That wasn't there before but the bike's always been a little quirky below 3k rpms.

The power in the normal rev range feels fine. I'm wondering if I need new spark plugs? Any ideas? I'm taking it to the dealership to be checked out later today.
Thanks,

- John

My light came on every once in awhile at about that mileage. I didn't have any performance issues though. My dealer said it may be just loose wiring.

After a while it just stopped. I can't verify if they traced it down during the service or not.

If the MIL light came on, that means that the ECU has logged a fault. the dealer, or a mate with a tuneboy should be able to tell you what code was stored.
This should give you at least a starting point on a diagnosis.

Mine also came on just after the two year warranty ran out. No abnormal effects on performance however. Dealer diagnosed it to faulty ECU chip and repaired it under warranty. Would have cost me over $400 otherwise.
