So for a couple of weeks I've had a knocking noise when I pull away from the lights on my 1050 05 Sprint. Yesterday it got much worse so I poped into Jack Lilley's.

Turns out that for some unknown reason the nut holding the front sprocket in place had worked lose allowing the sprocket to wobble when put under load.

Looks like it hasn't caused any other problems other than some extra ware on the front sprocket.

So I have no idea if it was a one of or maybe they will come lose for others if your mileage is getting up there (mines 34k)it might be worth checking. It seems weird that a part that has never been touched just suddenly decided to work lose without any outside influence nor anything breaking.

So I'm in the market for a new chain and sprocket do I put the triumph one on again (which has seemed good) or do I put some third party one on. Whats the best one I can get for the Sprint?

Hi barbary,

Sure is a weird one your sprocket nut coming loose when it hasn't been touched, luckily no serious damage, think I'll check mine tomorrow.
DID make excellent x-ring chains so I'd go with the original from Triumph.

Regards,Lambo

Wow barbary you dodged the bullet on that one! Can you imagine the sort of damage to you (let alone the bike) if that front sprocket came off?

It is very strange for that nut to be loose - they are on at such a high torque and usually a real pain in the neck to get off...

Glad you caught it.

I'm glad you caught that one on time, Barbary! Is there not a tab washer fitted? If the nut is properly torqued, the tab bent over and the washer seated properly in the shaft groove, nothing should move.
