Got my new (holdover) 05 Silver Sprint ST a few weeks ago and LOVE it, except for the practically non existent windscreen (to be replaced with a Givi), the ugly rear fender, and the "heat" issue, especially on that right side in in-town riding. It was 65 degrees and my legs were getting toasty (wearing draggin jeans)!

I've heard there's a foam based retrofit kit you can get for it from Triumph? Do you just ask your dealer to install the kit? Or do I some how need to contact Triumph directly to get it shipped to me? Any drawbacks on installing it? Does it really improve things?

Any advice would be much appreciated, especially from those in the US who've had it done - thanks!

Ask the dealer, he'll organise it for you. He may charge you though. A few on the forum have done it easily.

Ask about the brake issue too

Seems like when the bikes are new, they let off more heat and it's very noticeable. After a few thousand miles, things will cool down a bit. How many miles do you have born2run74?
I had my heat kit fitted and it does re-direct the excess heat. I rode last night 200 miles with standard blue jeans and didn't feel the heat creeping from either side.

I only have 250mi on the bike. How did you get your heat kit? Just ask the dealer?

Cheers

Make sure its a Triumph dealer. :-D Just kidding.
If you do get the kit, don't expect great things from it. The engine is going to produce the same amount of heat, regardless. If the kit is installed correctly, it will redirect the heat, not eliminate it.
The heat does not bother me and I live in Florida. Although I noticed it initially, I did not feel it was that big a deal. Now, I don't even notice it. That could be relative to the engine breaking in. Anyway, I removed the kit from mine because it blocks the regulator/rectifier.

My dealer is unfortunetly clueless about most things:
Balancing wheels
Disc Brakes
Warranty procedure
Aiming headlights
Customer satisfaction
Math
How to dial a telephone
and the Heat Shield Kit
That's OK, the less he knows, the less I need to trust him.
He does know how to change oil and tires, but not balance them.
oops, sorry,

That's interesting, I figured the opposite.

The regulator/rectifier gets reduced airflow but at a lower temperature as it is no longer preheated by the radiator and exhaust.

Maybe I should borrow a meter and a couple thermocouples this weekend and find out.

I agree it's good to keep the regulator/rectifier cool. Some of the VFR guys are adding little 12V uP fans.

Just bought a 05 sprint 1050 and asked the dealer (JL) about the both the MC and heat shield he coughed to the MC and said they'd fit it free and that the heat shield was £30 as they are doing 12k service they would pop it on
