Book says to add 4.2 quarts on oil change but almost overfilled with 4 quarts and filter.what do most of you see that do your own oil change.

I had posted a ? has to the clear crankcase breather tube and was this normal to have it plugged. I received some different answers but would wish that someone could confirm with the same year bike. The dealer says it should be plugged.
Thanks :???:

01RS,

I have a 02 Sprint and my crankcase breather is not pluged. There is no point in having a breather if it does not vent.At high rpm the oil froths and the breather allows the gas from this froth to escape. If the gas pressure builds up too high it will leak out of the crank gaskets.
My owners handbook says it takes 4 litres of oil with a filter change but I never fit over 3.5l.This is due to the fact that some oil does not drain out.
It helps it to drain if you get the oil nice and hot first.(but hurts removing the sump plug)

From what I know (not much) the 00 engines took less oil than the 02 onwards motor.

It's not a breather tube if it's blocked IMO!! Maybe ask another dealer?

Good luck

01RS,
I would have thought it strange to block a crankcase vent, I am no mechanic but that as spock would say....

"it is not logical captain".

good luck mate there are plenty of tech experts lurking here that will know I am sure.

Thanks guys, I am fairly mechanical and have worked on many engines from aircraft to go-karts, and the vent plug was driving me crazy. It made no sense to me either ,but having never owned a triumph I wanted to make sure . Dealers training is only as good as the dealer needs it to be in order to make money.I trust guys who work and play on their bikes much quicker than the dealer and appreciate the feed back. Needless to say the vent is not plugged.I had never even ridden a triumph until the day I bought this one and I'm totally stoked by the way this bike handles. I bought the bike to handle the north Georgia mountains. The Harley will not be ridden as much as this is such a great bike.
