Hi all, :-D

I put a set of Conti 'Road Attacks' on 2000kms/1200mi ago, they grip all the way to the edge (and beyond!) no chicken strips on the rear - 10mm/ half inch on the front

Grip and feedback is much improved over the OEM Bridgestones.

So far there is no 'squaring' of the tyre (i estimate getting better then 10000kms/6200mi from the rear) I am a light weight, so this helps! :-D

IMO the conti's are well worth a look!

Cheers, G :-D

I have the Road Attacks on my '95. My riding has been mostly commuting with one long trip (2300 miles) last summer and the occasional ride up the canyons. I'm at about 10K miles on them with the rear just starting to square off a little. I don't ride them real hard; my chicken strips are about 1/2" wide. I'm sure a more aggressive rider would get different mileage.
I like the handling much better than the Dunlop D220's that I used to have; better turn-in and side to side transitions, along with good grip in the wet.

The only thing I've noticed about the Road Attacks that is different (worse) than the OE Bridgestones is that when cold they are harder and slide a little bit more if you get on the gas. Not a huge deal, they heat up quick enough.

On a rather long prior post, I decided to go from Michelin Pilot Roads, which came with the bike when I bought it (used) to Pirelli Scorpions Syncs because I do a lot of riding in the mountains around here on "B" and even funky, funkier and sometimes funkiest "C- D+" roads. I don't know how much mileage I got out of the Michelins because I don't know the mileage of the bike when the prior owner mounted them. I only know that although they were adequate they had some of what I considered quirks that I didn't like. I've had the Scorpion rear on for over 1000 miles, and frankly, didn't notice much difference between it and the Michelins; it did the job well enough so it didn't come to my attention, which is a good thing. This weekend I put the front Scorpion on and WHAT A DIFFERENCE !! The handling is much improved, the turn in is much quicker, the steering is more neutral, less muscle is needed to initiate a turn, although on Sprints some body language is mandatory.
So all in all, a good choice, at least for me. I expect the mileage I get out of them to be about the same or slightly less than that on the Michelins. I have only ridden the rear in the rain briefly, so cannot make a conclusive report on rain traction. Just my deflating U.S. $.02. Hope it helps.

Incidentally, John Wayne turns 100 on May 26. I think he looks great for 100, don't you ?

Thanks to all respondents esp.re:Conti's which I knew very little about and am considering, one more question which has me rather intrigued/curious,visited my favourite European bike shop on Sat. and checked out every new bike's tyres,Ducati,Aprilia,Moto Guzzi,Cagiva,MV Augusta and BMW,not one bike had either Continentals or Avons factory fitted.

Seems both brands are quite popular as replacements to Triumph owners but not even Triumph OEM ,not sure about Jap.bikes don't go there often, can someone "please explain", that's it DaveM I can almost here your keyboard chattering away from 1600klms south,I'll bet you know why.

That is not a very good price Steve, I was getting them for $490.00 fitted for a set.

Jefster,
the Michy Pilot Road is not noted for very quick turn in but rather long life, it is the tyre profile. This is also the case with the Metzeler Z6, although both are excellent tyres.

Jefster, could you also enlighten us with what brand a Scorpion is, I am not familiar with this name other than as an exhaust brand?

Lambo,
I expect the reason that neither Conti's or Avon as brands are not OEM is most likely to do with the fact that Bridgestone is a very big company and probably there is some sort of financial arrangement happening there between the bike companies and the larger tyre companies, (perhaps a rebate of some sort).

My years of bike experience tells me that just because a company fits "X" tyre as standard it isn't always the best tyre.
An OEM tyre could be good but is not necessarily the best tyre for me or you. After all we do not all ride the same and not in the same conditions either.

DaveM, I know what your saying, was also told the most popular tyres sold in Europe in sport class are Michy P/P2ct and P/P and Met.Rennisport,sport/touring class Mitchy P/Road 2ct and Conti. Road Attack, interesting.Scorpions are Perelli's.

Thanks Lambo,
I see the Scorpion is a "dual purpose" part off road type tyre which is why I am not familiar with it.

I have never used that type of tyre, I prefer sports tyres.

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

Just had a set of Michelin Road Pilot 2's put on my 05 1050...only done few hundred miles so far, not budged at all yet, only tried them in the dry so far, although they are advertised as the best wet grip and lifespan in independent tests....way different from road pilots previous versions (apparantly) my 020's got to about 3500 miles then went really flat in the middle, which i got used to man handling the bike into corners, BUT when i got the new ones, they went into the corners very fast, so i had to take it easy for a bit...used to them now...just about to do few hundred miles in France next weekend, i'll post back as to the performance

still got 10mm chicken strips on at the moment...hoping to sort that out shortly!!!!
