I saw that some of you Sprint owners had this problem too. I knew nothing about this recall until I did a search after the fact. I have an 02 Daytona and I smelled fuel the other day. I did some snooping around and found that the upper fuel connector to the mouting plate had a crack in it and fuels was leaking out. I did a search and found the recall. Iam waiting for the dealerships to open in 1-2 hours. Has anyone replaced theses on their own or has Triumph done them for you.? I'd really hate for them to have my bike tied up for weeks (or the weekend for that matter). I have also read that some of you have gone aftermarket. Does anyone remember their particulars? Here's a look at what I found:

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

When I bought my '01 Sprint last year with 1487 miles on it, the first week I had it I found the same problem. Trailered it two hours to the closest dealership and if the mechanic hadn't been o vacation that week, I would have had it back in a couple of hours. I think it is a pretty quick fix provided you don't have to wait behind a bunch of big jobs.

I recall several on here going with aftermarket fittings for another brand bike but I don't remember what it was.

Good luck.

You can get these fittings from McMaster Carr supply. You must order over the phone however. You cannot order them on line because it is not a normal stock size. If you've ever seen their catalog you will know how weird that is in itself!

Anyway the part number is 5478K71. That is the part # for a Hi Pressure Chrome-Pltd Brass Quick-Conn Cplg. That part has the standard 1/4" NPT dry seal thread. You need one with a British Standard Pipe Thread BSPT. That is the same part number only with a different K listing that will denote a special order which is 5478K999. That is the part number you need to give them and state you need a BSPT. It is a standard item from their supplier Colder Products. Takes about three days to arrive, you don't need an account if paid with a credit card and the price is around $11.50 each. Might as well get two and replace them both. These are with the check valve in them too.

McMaster Carr

Click on the 'About Us' link for their closest office phone number to you.

I had the fuel line break Thursday night before going to Daytona. Wound upcalling Great BayTriumph in Conneticut and ordering the stainless steel ones while sitting in my dealerships parking lot in Florida!

The dealer didn't have any, and a minimum of five days wait.

Ordered over night, had the parts installed in bike and off to Daytona by noon on Saturday.

No problems since.
