Anyone able to let me know what the suggested revs / gear changes are for the Sprint ST 1050. I've looked through the Owners Handbook and Service Manual and cannot see this info.

Thanks,
Graham

Well... once you are past break in, and I'll assume you followed the max rpm and other advice about breaking in the engine.... Shift when you want to... I sometimes putt up through the gears and sometimes run it right up to the high end to clean it out and stretch the power band out a bit. I've never hit the cut-out on my '03, but I know I've come close... Read the engine break in thread... I slowly crept the rpm higher over the 1st 5k, trying hard to work the revs up and down, and now with 20k I just run it as I feel like, being sure to blow it out occasionally.

hope this helps.....

Before Break-In:

Don't know. Never bought one brand new.

After Break-In:

Mine was nicely equipped from the factory with a little section of red on the tach. Usually as soon as the needle touches the red, that's the last chance you've got to shift before the rev limiter kicks in. I'd recommend shifting before then.

These are the rev limits for break in:
1-100 miles 3500rpm
100-300 miles 5000rpm
300-600 miles 6000rpm
600-800 miles 7000rpm
800-1000 miles 8000rpm

Graham, Whatever your style of riding, don't chug it or lug it. That hammers an engine. These are Hi-perf. engines after all and not a tractor motor. They like to be revved. At least mine does. Actually it gets better gas mileage.

That's it,don't chug or lug is the key to any engine (except diesels) whether it's a twin, triple or four, once you get used to a particular engine you'll find a "sweet spot" where you subconsciously change gear and are always within a few hundred rpm's either side unless you're fangin' hard and red-lining through the gears,on my 1050, for me, it's around 4500 rpm.

Regards, Lambo.

The only chug-a-lugging that's acceptable is with a bottle of ale. :-D :-D

Just on the chugging thing have any of you guys who ride a lot in traffic found the 18 tooth sprocket gives better performance at lower speeds and accelerations? I certainly don't ride like a granny but sometimes in heavy traffic I find that taking off (with 19 tooth sprocket) initially labours the engine.

I know a lot of riders enjoy the gains in low end acceleration but could this cause me a bit grief on greasy wet roads? I ride every day, fair weather or foul...

Thanks for any comments.
