I'm due for new tires and have had Avon Azaros for the past almost 11k miles. I've decided to go with the replacement - the AVON STORM.

I loved the azaros, but am wondering (as with anything new) how the replacement stacks up.

I put a set on at the very end of last year so I haven't put a lot of miles on them yet (about 600 so far). From the riding I've done they seem very good. They are confidence inspiring and smooth. The only thing I noticed is that they take a while to warm up, but that could be the lousy weather we've had here.

Iceman has them and I think he likes them quite a bit.

I've got them and they seem to quicken and lighten the steering a bit from the BT020's that came as stock. Actually, almost to much as the back end tends to move around more than the 020's as well. I have read on here that if you bump up the pressure a bit on the back tire it really helps but I haven't done it yet.

I have the Avon Storm ST's fitted and have done 2K miles on them, far better than the 020's. No more chicken strips and they haven't started to square off yet as the 020 did just after 1K miles. Great tires. confidence inspiring.

I got Avon Storms fitted a couple of months ago just before a 5,000km trip.

Davem talked me in to Avons - and he knows his onions :-D

After my squared off Bridgestone 020s they felt fantastic.

I dont ride too hard but they certainly feel great for my style of riding. They turn in nicely without being aggressive and no problems with confidence in their grip wet or dry.

So far they look like they should easily do 10,000km on the rear so plenty of life in them.

I bought a second Sprint St a few months ago (do 300 miles per week) and put Storm's on straight away (azaro st's on my other ST, which has done 72K miles, mainly on Avons). The Storm didnt have that off the line wobble the Azaro's had, they live up to Avon's claim about grip, mileage and stability (so far). Worth the extra - probably, I liked the Azaros and the Storms are every bit as good but I doubt I will explore the improved aspects of the new tyres, except I did notice the rear seems to be worn to the out edges and I dont recall the Azaros getting over that far I'll be putting a new set of Storms on when these need replacing though. A couple of things I noticed about the Azaros, a new set hardly changes the handling from an old set (most odd) but they are much better than Bridgestones when they get old and a bit squared off, the handling hardly changes at all, unlike the Bridgestone which go off before they are truly worn out. All in all I prefer the Avons, maybe the newer Bridgestones are better than the old but I wont be changing away from Avons, they inspire confidence, wear well and cost a bit less too.

mattbin,
it isn't that odd. The reason Azaros feel the same is they tend to wear more evenly and so the handling characteristics do not change a whole lot.

A lot of tyres don't wear as evenly, and this uneven wear changes the handling a good deal, especially if you ride quickly.

I have a pair of Azaros with 14,000 miles on them on my Sprint. The rear is starting to get pretty flat and the front is showing some cupping. I'm going to replace them this summer. What compound are you folks using on your new Avon Storms? Thanks!

14,000 miles Thats some impressive mileage on those tires. I've used Avons for a few years and really like them but I could never get that kind of miles out of them.
