I've a quick question which I know has been answered before but can't find the post with the answer I'm looking for... so:

I've been putting in medium grade fuel - 89 Octane - in my sprint. Am I wasting my money - should I be using the 87 Octane fuel? BTW - I now know that different areas of the world use different octane ratings than the USA so really this question is for all you USA readers out there...

Thanks!

In my '06 I run what the factory recommends which is 89 octane or higher. It runs just dandy on the 89.

Hi duckie,
I think your manual will say a minimum of 95 RON.

I usually run 98 octane in mine as we have three grades here, 91, 95 & a few brands have a 98.

Cheers,
DaveM

WADR, my 06 manual, page 33 calls for 89 or higher. Don't know how this converts for other countries.

Run it on the lowest octain without knocking. Interesting fact The lower the octane the more combustable the fuel. Knocking is caused by compression igniting the mixture. If you don't want this lower the octane. :???: :???:

Thanks oldndumb and daveM. I remember from a previous posting that although the octane ratings in Australia seem much higher they are actually similar to the American ratings because they are calculated in a different way - can't remember how exactly but you get the idea...

I'll be sticking with the 89 with the occasional tankful of 91 when I feel some hard riding coming up...

The comparable grade to 95RON is 91 or better in the United States.

My '02 runs great on the recommended 89 octane (USA pump octane rating) midgrade.

US pump octane = RON+MON/2

RON = Research Octane Number

MON = Motor Octane Number

Other countries tend to use one rating system or the other, we average both and use that number.
