I'm looking for a new seat for my '01...I'm leaning towards the sargent for no other reason other than some horror stories about corbin and the heat from the gel...it gets hot in Texas...what do y'all think?

I am currently going with a Rick Mayer custom seat. check out Rickmayercycle.com

I have not got my seat yet. But the rider feedback on his website was enough to sway my money his way. I have a 07 sprint st. My boys are looking forward to the new saddle.

If you are 5'10" or taller, the gel seat is the same width as the stocker, which is a little narrow.

The gel gets hotter than hades if left out in the sun, and it stays hot for a while. I make it a habit to cover my seat with an old (mostly) white baby towel.

I was just over in Jacksonville, and stopped by Sargent Cycles. They have a seat for the ST on display. It looks nice! Retail price is $429.95 (www.sargentcycle.com)

I've ridden my buddy's ST with the Corbin. It's a nice seat, but the butt pocket is too far aft for my liking (I'm 6', with a 32" inseam.).

I have another friend that owns a V-strom and a Mayer seat. He loves it.

HTH, Steve

I put a Rick Meyer seat on my Tiger and it was great. Completely transformed the bike into an all-day rider. I did a nearly 1600 mile ride in less than 3 full days with no complaint.

I had a Sargent for my '03 Sprint, and loved it. It fit great and the fold-away bungie hooks were a nice addition. The tool canister, however, was all but useless.

Best of all, I got it for a fair deal used, so I was a bit bias towards the Sargent.

I'm bummed (pun intended) that Sargent hasn't yet come out with a seat for the newer Sprints, because I would get it in a heartbeat.

NJ,

Call Bill at Sargent (800-749-SEAT (7328)). Maybe you can sweet talk him into helping you (and all the other '05+ guys) out.

He may want to borrow your bike for a couple hours, though.

Before you call, and since I don't know, is the '07 seat the same as the previous two years?

I have the Corbin on my '01. It is an awesome seat, and is very comfortable. I have not noticed the heat retention (garage to garage commute), but it is black leather and I imagine that anything black is going to get hot out in the sun. I typically don't have to park it in the sun, but I am sure the day will come.

Maybe a removable light colored cloth cover would prevent that problem while parked in the sun.

granburysprint was referring to the Triumph Gel Seat. Sure the Corbin may get hot, as would any seat, but the nature of the gel is that it really retains the heat.

Thanks...I'll check out the Mayer...the sargent has been lowered to $316 so I thought it sounded like a good deal

You mean $416, right? Or am I missing a special "deals" page?
