Guys is there a set of shorter bolts to put in place if you remove the frames for the factory bags or are they (the bolts on bikes without bags) the same length? Also would like to know if it's a quick thing to remove and replace, I won't be using the bags much but would like the option later?

Do you mean the bolts for the bottom front bracket that has the tab on it? If so I left mine on (kinda blends in to my eye so I left it) but took the side rails off and the dumbbell thingy. I reckon I could have them back on in under fifteen minutes but I'm not sure about the front piece.

4 bolts hold the siderails on the bike---2 to the rear grab rail and 2 to a bracket on the frame in the hole of the side fairing. Those are simple to remove and leave everything else if you wish. I kept the little black plugs that the dealer removed from the rear grab rail to re-install to keep clean look (they're like little automotive uphoulstry/trim screw/plugs). I went the further steps to remove all the brackets. To do this, the seat and tail section need to come off after the siderails are removed. Here, there is a bracket on each side of the seat held on by 2 more screws. Remember to note location/orientation and I also labeled screws/parts in individual ziplock bags. Next, the passenger footpeg brackets can come off. This consists of 3 bolts (2 to the subframe and 1 to the lower portion of the footpeg) on each peg. This might be a gotcha, because once removed, the footpeg is reattatched with only 2 bolts to the subframe. Those 2 bolts are shorter (from the factory when bags are not installed) and I kept these bolts too when my dealer installed my luggage kit. Next, with the tailsection removed, you will see 4 bolts holding the bracket for the ball/slider doodad to the rearmost part of the subframe (2 per side). Remove those bolts (while supporting/holding the mudguard/fender assembly). Here you can unclip the wires on the leftside subframe of the bike to give more room and turn the mudguard upside down. You will see a cover held by 3 screws underneath. Once removed, you will find 3 bolts holding it all together. Look close and you will see that there are 2 sets of 3 holes, one set about a inch away from the other. This is were even some dealers are messing up. With the bags installed, the rearmost set need to be used for the turnsignals to clear the back of the bags. Without the bags, you can move it back to the original set to tidy up the tail a little and show off more of the exhaust!.

Buttonning back up is the reverse obviously. ALL of this depends on how much bracketry you wish to remove. If just the siderails, well simply remove the 4 bolts per side and your done! The rest is more involved. You need to have those 2 shorter bolts per rear footpeg thought. I guess you could use a couple washers though to take up the space the brackets would occupy on the longer bolts. Also, without those 4 black plugs to the rear grab rail, you will have exposed holes.

Just remember to label your parts/bolts coming off. Also, my dealer gave me the heads up to use antiseize compound on the bolts when reinstalling to keep them from seizing in the aluminum threads of the frames.

Cool, thanks a million. The 4 plastic plugs are the answer I was looking for. This is a very helpful site.

Mike :-)
