I got stranded riding home from work today. Stopped to get gas, and when I went to restart, silence. Turns out the #2 fuse (20amp) keeps blowing when I hit the starter button.
Had to load her on the trailer and take her home.
ANYBODY ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS WITH 06 ST ABS?
Seem like a direct short in the starter.

More likely a short in your wiring harness or starter solenoid. A starter short would be unfused and somewhat more catastrophic.

I think you meant fuse 1 if the 20 amp is blowing.

If I were troubleshooting this I would inspect the wiring from the start/kill switch. Triumph ran the wiring tight and it tends to pull on left lock. I rerouted mine. The pulling was down behind the headlight where the switch array plugs into the fairing harness. Others have reported broken wiring.

You should see 6 relays under the right hand frame member. Pull the 3rd relay from the back. Now the switched 12 volts only travels from the start switch to the empty socket. If you still blow fuses it's the switch or harness.
If you don't blow fuses it could be a shorted starter solenoid coil (downstream of the pulled relay).

Or... Call your dealer.

Here is my rerouted harness.

Thanks CLB,
You're right...fuse position 1. A little confusing when looking at the diagram on the plastic fuse cover.
That puts my mind at ease about how severe the problem could be.
I don't recall hearing the relay click when I hit the button after I replaced the fuse twice.
...just had my coffee...looking at the Sprint Service Manual Elec. Diagrams and wondering if my rubber relay strap finally let go...going out to check now.
And yes, the bike is under warranty.

...the relay strap is intact and first visual inspection of harness looks OK...off to the dealer...I'll let them check for broken wires or shorted coils.
