Adding Rear Luggage Rack

Installed a rack the other day and had some odd fitting issues. The front two bolts are installed but have a gap between the plate that is installed as part of the rack kit and the existing framework mounting point. Went on per the directions but it seemed odd to have that gap and you could overtighten it bending the rack plate if you cranked on it. Also the seat is harder to latch than before and I had to shim the catch with washers to get it to latch at all as the seat touched down on the base arms of the rack before it went down far enough into the latch.

Anyone have these types of issues? Did I miss something?
Thanks!

More like 6 beers to hide the pain from the skinned knuckles. I got my Sprint over the VFR because of the accessories offered by Triumph. That rack was the most difficult to install. Also part of the reason I didn't buy the harsd panniers and spent $1500 less for a Givi top box and the soft bags.

I just installed my rack and had all the issues you mentioned. What a crap design, made even more difficult with the factory hard bags.

Let's hope the new ST comes with a better setup, cause this one is Rube Goldberg in the extreme.
