I’ve been having some surging problems on my 2001 Sprint ST. When riding down the road at a constant speed I’ll get a surging in the bike, it feels like the bike is running out of gas. I have replaced the fuel (what a pain in the a#$) and the problem didn’t go away. I had a very similar problem about 3000 miles ago and the dealer that worked on my bike told me the throttle bodies were out of sync. I had them re-sync but can’t imagine they would already be back out of sync. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Sorry, no help yet. My 2000 ST has similar symptoms. Riding through Mount Rainier National Park, two up with camping gear at 35 mph was a real treat! It has been in the local shop for four weeks now with no solution. Tried latest map, mixture changes, leaner and richer, sync'd throttle bodies, swapped computer, etc. all with no improvement. Calls to Triumph have produced things to try but no fix yet. Will keep all posted when it's been properly diagnosed.

Did you replace the fuel filter?

The way that some talk about all of these issues with new tunes, pipes etc. makes me want to leave mine alone. Mine runs fine and gets good mileage. I got the new fuel fittings installed this week.

It is like a computer that is running fine, sometimes upgrading the software causes more problems than it solves.

That and after reading the 12k mile checkup thread, I will definitely learn how to do it myself.

No mods on the bike it's still stock, maybe I need to mod it? :horns:

Hi There,

Maybe the oxygen sensor eliminator may help? http://www.dynojet.co.uk/pc/accessories.html (at the bottom of the page) It should be on the US website but you will have to look for it.

There is a debate about this item here: http://www.triumphridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=790

It is quite cheap to buy and could solve the problem.

I'f all else fails, have the injectors cleaned. As stated in my previous reply, the dealer tried richer and leaner maps, checked all applicable sensors, even swapped the ECM. Nothing helped until they sent the injectors out for cleaning. No more surging at "neutral" thottle (maintaining a constant speed, say 35 mph), "off-on" throttle no longer abrupt. The bike feels like it did when it was new. My thanks to the good folks at Cacade Moto Classics for their help. My only concern now is how to keep it from happening again. Every 17,00 miles is too often to go through this. :-D

Hi All,
There is a buterfly that is on a servo in the injector system. It sounds like the servo may be flaking out.
I had read somewhere that someone else was having the identical symptoms and they swapped out the servo (stepper) and the problem went away.
Hope this helps.
