I was washing my sprint the other day and found a 5 inch crack in the fairing. The source looks to be the bottom mounting screw on the rightside engine fairing(main fairing). I haven't taken the fairing off yet. But the dealer that did the 600 mile service I'm sure did. What should I do? Warranty? Have the dealer check it out? I'll post a pic of it soon.

I think I'd have a very long talk with the dealer. If you haven't taken it off then either at the factory or the dealer did it. Or it was flawed to begin with.

Usually in the 500 mile check it's not necessary to remove it unless they needed to get to the plugs or T/B. Most adjustments for new bike things can be taken care of without takeing it off.

I just had a 6k check and nothing needed to be removed.

I'd say before you hammered your dealer find out if they did have it off. Then go from there.

Good luck

Don

Yeah that's what I'll do. Got be tactful. One of the guys in my riding group works at the dealership, he said to bring it by and he'll point me in the right direction to talk to someone. I hope they don't do the usual "Must have happened at the factory" B.S. But we'll see. I'll let ya'll know what happens.

A lot of the assembly is done at the dealership... NOT the factory... I'm talking about things like the fairings... windscreen... etc...

I know I got a crack in my windscreen, AFTER, the warranty expired... but it was obvious that it was because one of the bolts were over tightened... my dealer covered it even though the warranty was no good...

If the crack is from one of the mounting screws as you indicated... I would push your dealer to take care of it... They make more money on doing your maintenance and selling you stuff after the bike purchase... if you hint that you wouldn't feel comfortable with them working on your bike in the future if they don't own up to their mistakes, it might make him think twice about blowing you off...

I hear that. They've been good to me so far so I'd assume they'll take care of me. We'll see what happens.

My RS, also had a crack in the right hand side fairing. I did not pick it up until almost the first service. Upon looking through one of my "Torque" the official Triumph magazine - I noticed a picture of a Sprint being packed for shipping. There are straps from the bottom of the crate to the frame, at roughly 45 degree angle across the front of the radiator stressing the fairing panels out wood. I guess during shipping the bike moves around and stresses the fairing. Mine also has rub marks across the front of the radiator .

Did you get the fairing fixed? Or just leave it be.

I bought it brand new up at Southern powersports in chattanooga for $8300 back in june 2004. But the dealer that did the 600 mile service is Motobritalia in Woodstock, GA. They have since moved to alpharetta. One of the top sales guy at the store is a GSB member(Georgiasportbike) and he said he would take care of me. I'll let you know what happens after I swing it buy next weekend.
