07 vs. 06 ECU question.....

Hello all. I popped this question into another thread but guess we should start a new thread.

The 07 ECU is supposedly a more powerful and upgraded ECU. Does anybody know or does anybody have techie access to find out if we could simply swap a 07 ECU into a 05/06 Sprint? Do you think that it would be a simple 'plug-n-play' type swap or is more involved?

That all being said, do you think it would be a worthwhile add-on?

I would like to know also, although I suspect it won't worth the $. I guess it will be too expensive.

What I heard from the two dealers here was very similar... which doesn't mean it's right...

New ECU:
- doesn't have the multi rev firing delay, so the engine starts faster. The feeling here is that it was considered a problem in some markets, and would make the bike seem.... better in some way? I think having the engine turn a few times to move some oil prior to firing makes good sense myself.
- improved fuel economy, if you look at some of the comparos done, the Sprint is on the weak end for fuel economy... another market driven concern?
- neither dealer believed that the new ECU would have a significant impact on dyno stats, nor was it remapped/designed with that concern in mind.

I don't know how much if any of this is true... seems details are hard to come by with Triumph in this regard. I'm still trying to get measured specs on the '07 bar difference... all I can seem to get is "higher", or, "higher and a bit further back". Not clear why such a simple detail isn't easily found :???:

GRN --- I agree. The 'few' seconds (if even that long) of extra cranking before starting really does not bother me. It hasn't been an issue for me. A little better MPG never hurts, but, the bike is already better than my car and I enjoy 'wicking' up the Sprint too much, so I'm not real concerned about the fuel consumption :-D

A couple extra ponies would be nice too, but if I recall correctly this also made the motor a little peakier. Not necessarily a good trade off for my street riding.

Plus, god knows how much big T will charge for a new ECU. I'm dying to get a TOR or other equivalent eventually for my performance gain. I'm just interested to know if we COULD swap the ECU's without a problem. :hammer:

The price of the 07 ECU is plus US$1600.00! Alot of sheckels to spare a few extra turns of that sweet triple!

I believe the 07 has different fuel injection too, so not sure how the 07 ECU is configured or programed for that system. Seems that the different fuel injection system would be managed differently, perhaps different inputs or software code.

$1600 !?!?!? I knew I was happy with my 06! No need to change to that ECU.

Look at the air/fuel maps. Below are links to the 06 and 07 Air/Fuel maps. Notice that much of the 06 and earlier tables are above redline and below idle. The 07+ tables are revised to add more RPM points around cruise.
It's almost as if a generic ECU were quickly pasted onto the 05/06 bikes.
The 07 ECU on the other hand appears to be optimized for the Sprint RPM range.

Contrary to other postings here the 07 tunes will not load into an earlier ECU

You may need to expand or enlarge the jpegs for a good view but detail is there.

Notice the raised or lean area around idle and cruise. I believe this accounts for much of the improved starting and MPG. The 05/06 machines gas foul unless you blip the throttle to give them more air.

I have an 07, still runnig it in, how many miles should i get from the tank on the new mapping and what should be the average MPG.
