Hey guys and gals,

I just discovered an oil leak that wasn't there before this weekend.

Oil is being forced out of my filler cap when I run at high speeds -- around 95 to 100 mph and over. I've double checked the cap, and it's in nice and snug, (read as more than finger tight). So far I haven't seen any oil coming out of the drain or around the filter, but I would have expected it from those locations before the filler cap. In one instance on Saturday afternoon the oil was actually leaking out after I shut the engine off not too long after a 15 - 20 minute high speed run on some country roads.

Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like your crankcase is pressurizing and I think there is a bypass or check valve isn't there.

Dolson,

When you say a bypass or check valve "isn't there," what do you mean? Broken, jammed, clogged, pinched? Is this something easily remedied? Where would I look for this valve or bypass? Is it bike threatening?

I did notice some small pieces of what I thought was black dirt or tar around the opening of the fill, and I'm hoping that's all it was. I have a hard time imagining anything other than oil being forced through the cap threads.

Definitely going to keep the speed down until I get this figured out.

A member of local Ulysses Club has a 2003 RS with same problem. If he gets overexcited on club rides the breather drips oil. He has yet to find a solution - If you get the answer email me at collinschemist@hotmail.com.
