I ride my ST pretty hard most of the time, in the lower gears going through twisties(sp) but when cruising I don’t go much past 80 to 85, now and again ill reach 100. But yesterday on a long straight lonely country road, for some reason (little red guy on my left shoulder) I decided to open it up, as the needle passed through 140 towards 145 I suddenly remembered that this sprint has almost 118k miles on it, so I decided to let off the gas just incase this over worked engine decided to take a vacation.. I have the 18 tooth sprocket, stock can, genmar risers, 14.5”cee bailey screen. Also I was sitting up in regular riding position, love that Cee Bailey. My question is What is the ST’s top speed??

I also have the 18T sprocket. My speedo indicates 80 MPH at 5000 RPM. One would figure that'd be 160 indicated at 10,000 RPM. Given the 10% optimistic speedo, my guess would about 145 actual, if the bike could actually pull redline in top gear.

I've seen upper 140s quoted by some of the mags. They said the rev limiter hit before the bike quit pulling in 6th.
I've done it once. Mine will hit the limiter in 6th. Stock gearing, stock screen, and I was getting under the paint. When I sat up it slowed down.

Hi All,
Actually what I've gathered is the ST has a better top end than the RS because of the fairing. I know htat there was a getn on one of these bards from France who did the Autobahn a coup[le of times and said that he GPS'd at 155 with a little more to give.
I think that when you start getting above 130 on the street you have entered into the danger zone. Things happen really fast at that speed.

Flat on my tank !with panniers! 5th gear I got on the speedo to 245Km/h That's around 153 I guess...
Known that the speedo has already a fault of 5% and more at 75mp/h I guess that the error margin will go only up... say to 7% that leaves me with a pretty respectable 227Km/h
It's like riding in a green tunnel! Did this twice on an empty German highway. One car and I would let go of it... Things come awfully fast at you at these speeds!

Thanks guys, I guess ill just have to go for it next time, it was still pulling when I let off the gas, I should have checked the rpm. Under normal conditions at 4000 rpm i am doing about 68 indicated.

Gotta get my 2 cents in here. Not long after I got my 02 ST I took it out to see what it would do, at 153mph I quit, still had a little twist, but that was enough for me. I think a stock ST with 19/43 sprockets will red line at about 160mph. Since then I’ve done some mods and mine tops at 145mph, that’s with a 17/43,up-hill with a head wind, red lined. That’s @ 5000 ft elevation. Sea-level would do better off the line, but the end result is still the same, 9500Rpm with a 17/43 ratio makes you real small, real quick to everyone else at the light and it will pull the wheel in 4 gears. I try to keep 2 on the ground.

A guy from t595.net had his Sprint ST at the Bonniville Salt flats and ran 156mph all stock. He had a picture, don't remember his name though.
