Does anyone have pictures of the factory bag setup without the bags attached? I want to see what the brackets look like without the bags on. Much appreciated

I was at the dealer today looking at Black one, it looks like you have to take the seat and tail piece off to remove the bag bumpers off,but i could be wrong.

Hey that looks pretty good as calipers go lol.

Seriously, it doesn't look bad. I though the setup on my R1100S was sweet but this looks better.

I think the side rails for the factory side hardbags on my '06 Sprint ST are ugly. If the bags didn't come free, I would not have gotten them. If I knew what those rails looked like before I bought the bike and had to pay for the bags...forget it! I like the bike's lines without the hard bag set up. But whatcha gonna do? I need storage for when I ride. Oh, well. I'm getting used to it. I just don't look at it when the bags are off. Or just leave the bags on and it's not as noticeable.

I just took one of the ball ends off - by pulling it - and then just removed the rod by sliding it out the other end. I'll leave it off until I need to put the panniers back on. It took me about 10secs.

I wasn't sure if it was supposed to come off or not.

With the rails. Without the rails. With the body work. Without the body work. The rails come off with 4 bolts apiece. It takes about 5 minutes once you get the right size tool. My Pics

LoVel is right. Only need to remove 4 bolts to take the rails off. I agree she looks better without the rails. However, if you want to remove the small bracket that the foward part of the rail mounts to, then you need to remove the tailpiece bodywork. Likewise to remove the ball/slider doodad and its bracket you need to remove the seat/bodywork. If you 'only' want to remove the rails, just 4 bolts and go! The lower brackets for the bags are mounted to the inside of the pillion pegs and can be left on or come off with 3 bolts I believe. Just make sure you have the original bolts from the bike when it didn't have the pannier system installed cause I think they are shorter in order to remount the pillion pegs without the brackets.
