Accidents are a part of ridin', a very bad part. Wed was supposed to be in the 50's in Western Mass, so I figured ride to work. Bad, bad, bad idea. I live 3 miles from work, what could go wrong???? Oil or Black ice is what could go wrong. In a curve I spot, Oil? Ice? whatever, down I go. Goin' under 20 but the bike went down fast and that road didn't give at all. Lucky that cagers saw me, two even helped. Rode it back home, haven't checked it out for damage. Bottom line BROKE RIB. E.R gave pills, said 6 wks to heal. Forget gettin a nights sleep. What home remedies are out there?? Any doc's out there? :brk:

Sorry to hear of your off. Glad most is OK

Alcohol works well for a broken rib - Lots and lots of alcohol.

It thins the blood and allows the red and white corpuscles to surge through your body with their healing powers.

If you don't believe me ask Bundeon-Jen :-D

Sorry to hear that hardrider,

that is a***** when that happens, been there done that and bought the Tee shirt. I actually have a draw full of those type of Tee shirts!

Stay strapped up, try not to laugh quite so much and yeah well it's gonna hurt for a bit.

Try some nice Appletons Estate Jamacan Rum, the 142 year aged Extra is the best, nice and smooth guaranteed to help sore and busted up ribs.

Take it easy and heal fast.

Been there, done that, shrank that T-shirt. Cold packs for 15 minutes then off for an hour and repeat. Don't leave it on for over 20 minutes or your body will interpret it like it's heat. At first it will probably ache like holy h*ll while it's on. Will reduce the interstitial bleeding, swelling and inflammation and reduce the pain. Once the pain and bruising start to improve you can then alternate between 15 minutes of cold and then 15 minutes of MOIST heat. Not dry heat. If you apply heat during the initial acute stage it will aggravate the damage and the pain. NSAIDS will mask the symptoms, but it's been proved they actually impair the healing process, especially with prolonged use. If you use a rib belt be careful it doesn't restrict your breathing/lung excursion too much because it can cause fluid to build up in your lungs and set you up for pneumonia. If you think you're in pain now, try getting pneumonia and uncontrollable coughing. You'll think you have to die to get better. You may be more comfortable sleeping in a recliner for a while. It's worth a try. The bottom line is rest, ice and patience. You're going to hurt for a while. Heal well my friend!

Ouch.

Gotta watch out.

I did it before, F-ing bridgestone tires. Super cold, no cold traction, leaned into a corner, just alittle, slip-sliding away.....

good luck, you'll be back in no time. :-D

Ouch. I installed heated grips and bought some cold weather gear planning to extend my riding season here in VA. A few weeks back, it was supposed to be in the high 50s one day, and was 30 when I left my house. I have a 25 mile commute and it was foggy (usually is since I live near a river.) Well, about a mile from the house I hit a light drizzle. Long story short, as I topped one of the mountain crossings the water on my faceshield froze just as I was heading into a sweeping left hander on wet road. Talk about pucker factor. Thankfully rolling off the throttle, saying a prayer, and easing it through the corner was successful. So, I'm putting my limit at 35 degrees and no condensation.

Hope you heal up soon and the bike isn't too banged up.

I agree with ooobaby in his use of cold. Works wonders the 4 stages of cold are: cold, burning, aching, numbness. The numb stage at the end is so great you will almost orgasm with hurt ribs. You can also stretch the broken area with your fingers to pull the broken bits apart slightly. Very gentle with this but can give great pain relief. Omega 3 Fatty Acids will help some with the pain (not from Bass), they come from Salmon, Mackerel, Anchovies, Halibut, and Sardines. If you use meds to numb the pain, you need to use them sparingly, you want to feel the pain so you don't do more than you should. My recommendation is to stay away from meds deal with the pain so you don't do more damage.

From your neighborhood chiropractor up here in Canada. I will think about you when I am at the bike show this weekend in Calgary.
