I dropped my first bike (1981 Yamaha XS850 Midnight Special) on my friend's 1997 Honda Shadow because I was dumb and my bike's cutout circuit failed. I thumbed the starter, not realizing I'd left the bike in gear, and it lurched off the side stand and fell over onto my buddy's bike. Now I'm always straddling the bike with the clutch in when I do that. Then I put it back on the stand after it's running and let it warm up while I put on my helmet, gloves and jacket...

The other day I was leaving my Triumph dealer and sat there for what seamed to be an hour trying to start my bike. Stand was down. People inside must have thought I was flashing them.

yeah I've done the sidestand thing too.
The problem is you get a bit flustered after it does it a couple of times and dont think it through properly.
It usually happens in front of a few people so you look a real prat.
I've got the Ventura soft luggage and am happy with it.I have 2 sizes 45l and 10l.Seems to be fairly waterproof and has plenty of pockets,is easily removed and attached, and fairly good quality.
Some photos in my album.

Yeah I've done all those silly things too, also the old bumped the kill switch off, that's always embarrassing.
I also have the Ventura packrack system and also have a larger "RJAYS" bag that fits the same rack. I think I have photos of the larger one in my album.
Cheers,
Davem

I've not only done the sidestand thing, but when I first got it, couldn't get it started until I realized you had to pull the clutch in...... :hammer:
I of course had a nice audience that day...

Last weekend I was sat at some traffic lights for awhile and decided to use the side stand to trigger the lights. The engine stopped immediately and I chuckeled to myself when I realised what I had done. Funny how we think sometimes.
I have the hadr bag setup but am considering removing that and getting some soft bags. Most likely the Cortech.

I had an embarrassing event on my old bike, I was traveling down the hi-way, slowed through a town, went to accelerate out of town and the bike quit. First though "OH*****" Tried over and over to start it, trying everything I can think of. Shut it all down because the battery was getting a bit low. Went through in my head the motorcycle safety course, fuel, key switch, neutral, clutch, then start. Went through it all and my kill switch had been hit. I accelerated so fast my hand jumped a bit and hit the kill. After 15 min of trying to start it, switch on, even with a low battery, fired right up.. what a relief. Just felt stupid because all of the traffic that I passed I had to pass again.
As far as bags, I have the Joe Rocket Velocity bags, they are awesome. the first time figuring out how to mount took about 45 minutes, after that I can put them on in about 5 minutes. They have an integrated rain cover as well, very nice, I have some pictures ans as soon as I get my photo page, I am on the first page now, I will post them.

Then there is always the one where the older vintage bike dies in the middle of the intersection and you check all the switches and the choke and kick and kick until you're about to have a heart attack and re-tickle the carbs and then realize you forgot to turn on the fuel petcock.

Best luggage I've seen is the Oxford soft bags. Extremely well thought out, engineered, and durable product!
