I just spoke with my dealer, there is a recall on Sprints , ( I think 05 to ?). The rear suspension mounting bolt is possibly defective, dealer tells me the assembly (whatever that is) is to be replaced and advises not to ride until repaired. Check your bike's VIN# with your dealer. I would not want the bolt to break in a corner

Wills,
Just got this from the Triumph web site:
SPRINT ST 1050 & SPRINT ST 1050 ABS SAFETY RECALL (Dec 2007)

In-service feedback from predominently poor road surface condition markets has identified a small possibility of the rear suspension drag link bolt either bending or (in extreme conditions) fracturing on Sprint ST1050, both ABS and non-ABS models.

Under extreme circumstances it is therefore possible for the riders seating position to suddenly lower and for the rear mudguard to come into permanent contact with the rear tyre.
Rider safety is of paramount importance to Triumph so despite the extremely low-risk to owners, the company has decided to recall all Sprint ST 1050 models as a precautionary measure.

Owners of machines are being notified directly by mail, however anyone who wishes to confirm whether their machine is affected by the action is asked to contact their local dealer. The recall applies to all Sprint ST 1050 models up to Vin 298255.

Although safe to ride in the meantime, owners are asked to make early arrangements to have the drag link bolt and allied parts replaced. All authorised dealers have been briefed for the recall and stock of the new unit is readily available.

Cheers Gavin.

Wow - Looks like I was first in the world for this! (mine snapped on 28 Aug 2006).

Funny but most of the incidents I recall were in your area. There must have been a batch of bad bolts from a certain supplier.

Obviously you haven't ridden any of the so-called roads in Aus. The word goat track comes to mind. Anything from potholes big enough to swallow a small ocean liner to cattle wandering (and sh*tting) wherever can be found on our glorious back-roads. No excuse though, the design should be able to handle anything (within reason) - not just billiard table smooth freeways.

gavinb,

Would you please post the link on the Triumph web site where the notice is located?

I have just contacted my service shop and they say they have not been notified by Triumph about any recall.

Sounds strange (to say they least) that I can find about a recall before the official dealers are notified

EDIT: I've found it. It's here: http://www.triumph.co.uk/uk/1808_7092.aspx

I'm faxing this to my dealer along with an angry tone message.

PS. Funny thing is that the web page lists a date of Dec. 2007!!!!!

So I suppose my dealer will inform me in a year's time

:-D

Here's the recall notice. Triumph don't seem to put recalls on each country's site on their web site, only on the UK & US ones! Aust's site only lists the panniers, and NZ doesn't seem to have a bulletin's section (lucky buggers, they can't ever get problems then can they?).

Now that's a forward thinking company, planning when they'll need to have future recalls so we all get plenty of warning and they can gear up to them! :-D
