Triumph Recall Call Your Dealer

Hi,

I believe my drag link bolt has actually been replaced twice now under warranty. At the 6k mile service, and again at 12k.

Why twice?? Was it broken or sth??? What's happened?

I think the second shop that did the big service to my bike failed to look at the history reports of what had been done to my bike before. I didn't even know about the recall until I had 6k miles on my bike.

I went by the dealer and he said it had been replaced, simply by looking at it....the spacer looks different than original, can anyone confirm this?

I'm pretty sure that the spacer that has the groove around it is the new spacer that is used when the new drag link bolt is installed. I'm and not 100% sure of this though so maybe more members can confirm......

Kevy is correct.
The replacement spacer has a groove around the circumference.

There is mention of a Triumph recall in the March issue of Motorcycle Consumer News.

"Models: 2005-2008 Sprint ST 1050 and 2004-2008 Tiger 1050 Motorcycles equipped with an optional accessory luggage rack.
Numbers potentially involved: 3698
Summary: Undersized washers were used which prevents the sliding carriage from moving as intended.
Consequence: Reduced stability can occur if the motorcycle is ridden with the fitted accessory, exceeded maximum weight, and at speeds far in excess of the 80 mph limit warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the accessory racks for lateral movement. Those racks not displaying any movement will be repaired.

I knew about this recall in December 2007 after reading it on the Australian Government Recalls website. In January I booked my Sprint in for its 10,000Km service and I mentioned the recall but at the time the dealer knew nothing about it. I was finally notified by mail in early February. Service was done last week and the problem, if any, was checked and fixed.

What I find odd about this recall is that the speed rating for my top rack and box is 130 Km/h, as advised on the fitting instructions and stickers inside the luggage, but Triumph issue a recall notice because of potential problems in excess of 130 Km/h. I don't get it.

I made an appointment at Atlanta Triumph Ducati to take care of my rear drag bold recall which came out in January of 07. I bought my 2006 Sprint brand new from the Allsport Motorsports in Dectur, AL in August of 07 unaware of any recalls. When I learned of the read drag bolt recall, I called Allsport to make sure it had been taken care of. They assued me it had. Fastforward to a couple of weeks ago. I get a notice in the mail about a recall on the top box luggage plate. I call Atlanta Triumph Ducati and give them my vin. They see the drag bold recall in addition to the top box plate. I make an appointment and drive 200 miles on a Saturday to get it fixed. They kept me there for 2 hours and told me they didn't have the part. They apologized for the mistake and then proceeded to charge me 28 bucks for my chain adjustment! The next Saturday I rode the 200 miles with a 60 percent chance of rain the whole way. Problem solved. They also replace four bolts that were corroding under my grab rail. Woe is me. Thanks Atlanta Triumph Ducati. The good news? I missed the rain.
