In picking up my new sprint in November I want to visually inspect that this recall was done, and done correctly.

Also, the easier check is the 5/8 master cylinder instead of the 14mm thats an easy visual check.

The two spacers are replaced along with the bolt. The original spacers are smooth, while the relacement spacers have a circumferential groove. Very easy to see.

OK, I have to join in because I just got my 06 Sprint last week, thus I’m hyper interested in all things service related…sorry to flog what seems to be a well discussed topic… first let it be known that I do in fact use the search function, I do in fact research topics prior to posting, and I do NOT expect to be spoon fed info at my request (just for you forum police out there). This is what I’ve gathered:

Recall ID # 06V315000 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: DISC: CALIPER
Recall Date AUG 23, 2006
Model Affected 2006 TRIUMPH SPRINT ST
Summary - ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE ANTI-ROTATION STOP BOLT ON THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER MAY SHEAR ALLOWING THE CALIPER TO CONTACT THE SWING ARM.
Consequence - DAMAGE TO THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER AND SWING ARM COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy - DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP BOLT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TRIUMPH AT 678-854-2010.
Potential Units Affected - 674

Recall ID# 06V465000 - STEERING: LINKAGES: LINK: DRAG: CONNECTION
Recall Date: DEC 04, 2006
Component: STEERING: LINKAGES: LINK: DRAG: CONNECTION
Model Affected: TRIUMPH SPRINT ST ABS
Units Affected: 1913 Recall Details

From reading the forum posts, it appeared that folks thought the master cylinder issue is “recognized” by dealers and possibly Triumph, but there’s not formal recall?? The above info actually has a recall ID#.

I should be able to request a VIN check from my dealer an see every service event on my motorcycle, is that correct?

I love my Sprint, but I have to agree with the emotion regarding Jap bikes... my previous 3 Honda bikes, spanning 23 years had ZERO defects, ZERO recalls, and ZERO warranty work performed... not a single flaw, defect, componet failure...nothing. Normal service and oil changes... started every time hot or cold.... get the picture?

That said, none of the Hondas felt as good, sounded as good, and looked at good as my 2006 Silver Sprint ST ABS !!!

Regards,
SprintRB

I don't know if "every" service event is available from your dealer, though you would think so. I do know that all recall information is availble for you from the service department. You can also go to the factory web site and enter your VIN and see if there are any outstanding recalls applicable to your VIN.

The Master Cylinder replacement was not a recall. It was done as a "goodwill" program upon customer request. There was no formal notification to customers.

Look under the shock / SSSA area. It will be the bottom aft bolt.

If it has been replaced, you will see two spacers with grooves.
The Triumph factory web site will do a VIN search and tell you if there are any outstanding recalls.

Recall on the bolt is a big deal

Just wanted to let you know, the recall on the linkage bolt is a for real deal. I delayed on having mine replaced and put about fifteen hundred miles on mine that I maybe shouldn't have before I realized that on a particular two up ride I was sensing some slop in the rear wheel going through corners. I took it in the first chance I had and when they pulled the bolt it was bent, the stock shim around it was broken in half and half of the roller shim was missing. This could have resulted in a devastatingly horrendous and possibly mortal crash for me had it decided to let go while on a ride. The new linkage bolt is much stronger and seems to be of a better design, don't delay getting this work done...

Why would you delay such a recall?

The drag link bolt is very important and has been discussed here frequently when the recall came out, with particular attention to how important it was.

It is a major suspension component why did you delay it????

Dumb, yes...

It mostly had to do with a dealer who was remiss to do the service work because "in the past, people would order the parts and would then have someone else do the work." What I found out was, the dealer really didn't give two farts about doing the service work but thrilled to take my money at the time of original sale. This is a sentiment that is heard often about this dealer. The fact is, I had ordered the bolt at the time of the recall, but, the dealer just decided to drag out the order until I eventually got fed up and took it to Big Twin in Boise, Idaho, something on the order of 600 miles to the south of my home in Missoula.

Fair enough mate,
I didn't mean to grouse on you if I came across that way.
I am very glad the story had a happy ending.

Someone else here forgotten who, one of my fellow Aussies had it happen (bolt sheared) and was very frightening indeed as you might imagine it could have catastrophic results.

I think his was one of the first maybe the first in the world that showed up the problem.

I believe my drag link bolt has actually been replaced twice now under warranty. At the 6k mile service, and again at 12k.
