Got a phone call from the nice peeps at Webbs in Lincoln... last week.....

"Whilst we're replacing your Master cylinder we need to look at your rear sir "?

EH ?

"There a recall on your model for potential rear suspension linkage bolt fractures" !

ECKY THUMP !

I shudder to think about some of the roads/cart tracks,
I've trekked along (2up) on the ST in Eastern Europe, i.e Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, as well as Spain &
Belgium (gotta be the worst roads in western europe)
Let alone those mad sessions round the Nurburgring !!!!

DOH !
Smells & looks more like a budget design in bolts & links !!!
:???:

At least I've got an excuse to keep the ST locked up (clean & dry) in the garage (away from the salt) till my recalls done !
:brk:

P.S. That'll teach me not to read all the posts on here regularly !!!

What a stuff up... after 3 phone calls over the past 8 weeks and being put on waiting lists I was told by the local dealer that there was a recall on the recall!! The original washers provided by Triumph weren't tempered and now they can't get replacement kits from the UK... I'd have to go on the waiting list with the others & they didn't know when they'd get the replacement parts...

Then I rang the Melbourne Dealer - a miracle, I can get the recall work done on Saturday morning - just have to ride an hour to the city to get it done! Somethings badly wrong with communication within the PS Dealership!

Just another rubbish service from Triumph Aust - not much in the way of customer service or after sales support - don't know if I'll be recommending Triumph Motorcycles to anyone who is thinking of buying one!!!

Well sounds like I have had a very good run with my ST.
I bought it as a import that come from the states through a Yamaha dealer.
I made them aware of the suspension recall and they got on to Thunderbikes In Nelson (Who is a Triumph agent) and queried the recall, next thing I know there is a repair kit supplied free of charge even though the bike was not bought new in my country,
I would have to say that Triumph New Zealand and particually Thunderbikes Nelson are top notch!!!

UK ST still waiting for recall

I got a recall letter for the rear suspension bolt change early part of the year. I called my supplying dealer (who has since converted to a solus Honda dealer) and they promised to order the parts and get back to me to book it in.

Admittedly it's my fault for not chasing them sooner (work commitments have kept me out of the country for most of this year) but when I did, last week, they'd obviously forgotton, and asked me for the recall letter as they knew nothing about it. Of course I couldn't find it, before departing overseas again, so it's still stuck.

Hopefully I'll get it sorted when I get back next month, but it would have been incredibly frustrating if I had had opportunity to use the bike in the last few months....!

My query is more about the Master cylinder change - I mentioned it and they knew nothing about it and without a recall letter were not interested. Does anyone know what the criteria is for the MC change? If anyone has had it done (particularly here in the UK) could you let me know the circumstances / dealer? Mainly so I have a bit of background to motivate my dealer with.

It's an early 2005 ABS version that I've had from new (and only 1500 miles....!)

Thanks for your help

Jim--
I would try to take it to another Triumph dealer. Since it is a recall, any Triumph dealer should be able to perform as far as I am aware. Your dealer being only Honda now just means they probably don't care anymore. In regards to the MC change, I had mine done and do notice an improvement. The MC change was NOT a recall though. It is simply a 'good will' replacement IF you ask/badger for it. Again, you will more than likely have to hound another Triumph dealer---the Honda dealer definately won't do this service work (MC change) in my opinion. Good luck!

Is there a way to visually inspect that the link bolt has been replaced with the newer, stronger one?

Can anyone describe the difference from the old one to the new one?

In picking up my new sprint in November I want to visually inspect that this recall was done, and done correctly.

Also, the easier check is the 5/8 master cylinder instead of the 14mm thats an easy visual check.
