ok that looks interesting, I'm going to print your instructions out and discuss this
with my favorite technician to see what he says.

Now what about Sparkplugs and Air filter?
or more cheap thrills?

What weight and level of fork oil are you guys running and how happy are you with it?
I'm about to change my fork oil, put on a new front tire, and replace the brake pads.

I'm running 15wt. at the stock amount. Big difference to the positive over stock. much better compliance. Will try a few more oz. at next service.

Tom...big leap of faith there...one I'm seriously considering. Can ya help me tho...?

What does the sound approximate?

Triumph off-road?
Two Brothers?
D&D?

Did you listen after drilling one hole or just do the two?

Are the neighbors loading their shotguns?

Just a few questions...

Hi shootist,

I can't give you a comparison to other exhaust pipes since I have not heard them. Although most of the aftermarket pipes I have heard are loud. My modified stock pipe sounds deeper and more throaty than normal. My kids tell me it sounds like a different bike, a sport bike.

When I start it it sounds normal and you have to listen for the difference. It has a deeper tone coming out of the background. I have no pops so deceleration sounds clean. You really hear the difference when you goose the throttle it is louder, deeper toned and has a much more pronounced growl.

I took her out for a good ride yesterday and boy does it breath better. 1000 to 9500 RPM happens quicker, much quicker and much more responsively. At one time I was thinking of dropping to 18 teeth in my front sprocket and now I am not sure I need to.

I generally ride with ear plugs and could hear the louder growl, just a bit, through the plugs. I also rode for a bit in the afternoon without the plugs and I liked hearing the deeper, richer sound. I am thinking the aftermarket pipes are louder since the ones I hear when I ride with others are. I was even thinking about getting a new can. But now I have a little more sound and speed.

I did listen after drilling the first hole and did not hear much difference. Even after the second hole the sound is not too much louder. It does not sound loud like a Harley or even loud like what anyone would consider loud. The neighbors don't notice a difference.

I can hear the louder sound when I lay into the throttle but by the time anyone reacts I'm gone.

ct,

thanx for the reply....sounds like just what i'm looking for.

don't want to wake the dead...just looking for a little bit of the "throaty burble"...if you will.

i like the sound of the triumph carbon can...and the two brothers...

d&d is too much...or rather too little, i suppose...

i feel a tad superficial going for "the sound" as opposed to performance...but what the hey...it's visceral to such a large degree anway...

didn't really want to go $300 for the triumph can...

sounds like the way to go...thanx again...

I just installed the Truimph CF can on my bike. Got a reasonble deal on a used one. I just didn't want to shell out 400+.

So far, I'm real happy with the sound, a nice roar without being LOUD. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like it breaths a little easier too,.

Hey Reg & Others,
I posted this info in " ST Performance Can". The exact baffle dimensions are as follows:

1st baffle is 12" from the end
2nd baffle is 20 1/4" from the end

I thought I replied to this, but it didn't take. So...

I got my CF can from the great internet garage sale referred to as eBay. I managed to get it for about 1/3 of what a new one CF costs. Was it perfect? No but it was in good shape. My CF can came from a sprint that was being parted out. I was lucky as the place parting out the Sprint was about 35 minute drive from where I work. So I picked it up and saved a few shipping dollars. Also got me out of the office for my lunch break.

eBay is one of those places where you need to do a little research before you buy something. Get an idea of what you should pay. Often times for just a few bucks more you can get something new. It's also a hit and miss proposition. You never know what you will find on it.
