Hey all,

I am planning on doing some overnight rides next week and was wondering if I need to worry about the ST hard bags leaking in the rain? I tried spraying them with a hose and they seemed ok but I thought I would get some feed back from fellow ST ers. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I'm not an STer... but I have the ST hard bags on my RS...

I have the inserts for my side bags, but have noticed that they stay pretty dry in the rain, and even when washing...

Now the topbox is a different story... the bottom hinge cover was apparently designed to catch the water, and allow it to to work it's way into the luggage at it's leisure... I have seen it suggested that a bit of caulk carefully placed (ie: not on the hinge) will prevent that... I believe the hinge covers on the side bags would also benefit from this, but since they are on the bottom of the bag they allow the water to run out better than on the topbox...

hope that helps...

hi Cak, I haven't had any problems with mine and I live in the Uk at the moment, which means I've ridden in the rain several times. I will say that years of experience has taught me that Plastig bags are a good idea even when you don't think you need them.

But for riding in the rain, I've had no problems

Quite a few folks have expressed their displeasure with the sealing qualities of the hard bags for the ST. I've had no troubles so far - just a few drips on one side after a really hard rain. Some have suggested it's all in how well they were put together by the technician, yourself, etc.

Bottomline is, anything I don't want wet still gets wrapped in something!!

Hey Cak,
I have all three bags. We have had some incredible rain storms here in the North East lately (between 2" and 9") ...yes that was nine inches. Anyway, I have not had any leaks. Very happy with them.
