I've been looking at dyno results for both and I'm seeing about a 6hp diffrence between the sprint and the speed tripple. I was under the impression they both used the 118hp engine.

What year is the comparison? The specification matrix I've got for the 2003 model year shows the exact same power (118bhp) @ 9100 rpm and torque (74 ft.lbf) @ 5100 rpm outputs for the ST, RS, & Speed Triple. Same stroke, compression ratio, etc. too. The Daytona and Tiger are different 955's per this chart.

Triumph claims the engines are the same from 2002 onward. There is talk that early 2002 Speed Triples have a hotter cam in them. I don't know how the engines compared before 2002.

2000 and 2001 RS (and ST) had 108 hp.

This was upped on the newer bikes.

I had an '00 RS which supposedly had the same motor as the '00 S3. I had read online reports (and printed article in Motorcyclist mag) that the RS was "down on power" compared to the S3 and being an RS owner at the time, dismissed that as BS. Then I rode a friends '01 S3. BIG difference.

Maybe I had a "bad" one... :-D J/K. I loved that bike. But DAMN, the S3 makes me smile every time!
