I hit a deer about 10 days ago while riding my '06 Sprint. Got lucky -- I didn't even go down. Got away with a measly leg contusion. (Hit the deer in the neck, not the body, which explains why I didn't go cartwheeling.)

After arriving home and examining my bike's damage the following day, it appeared to me that virtually all the damage to my bike was superficial. Body fairings & such. I don't think there was any wheel damage, fork damage, engine damage, frame damage. (I could be wrong about this.)

Anyway my insurance company called me today to tell me they received an estimate from the local Triumph dealer to repair/replace whatever needed it... to the tune of ~$4200. Wow. I expected maybe half that. I haven't called the shop yet nor have they called me.

Well now. These things ain't cheap to make whole again. Glad I'll only suffer a $100 deductible.

Glad to be walking, too.

Yep, I've had a few low speed falls and each time it's cost me about 2K (aud) in plastic! There's a lot to said for bikes without farings!

Mick,
are fairinngs really expensive?

Engine casings aren't exactly cheap either!

A fairing is easier to replace also than a crankcase with a big gouge in it or worse a whole that lets all the slippery stuff fall out. (you cannot then ride home)

Or another senario is an exposed waterpump like for example some Fazers. Low side one of those puppies and you could wipe out yer cooling system. (you can't ride home)

There are certain advantages to fairings, although expensive they could at times save more expensive bits from grinding or could even save your machine from being unable to be ridden home.

Just to be the Devils advocate! :-D :-D :-D

I'm glad you made it out OK too. I had a close encounter with a doe a few weeks ago. Fortunately, she jumped out about 10 yards in front of me. I didn't even lock it up. Only thing I needed to do was exchange undertrousers when I got home. :-D

I crashed my 05 last year the day before Thanksgiving. It was a low speed low side crash and I rode the bike home.

My dealer executed repair was also in the $4200+ plus range.

Next time, Ill be doing the work myself, not that they didnt do a good job but there was no repair that I couldnt have done myself. I just feel better when I do something on the bike myself, not to mention the $$$ savings.

Anybody with $4k plastic bills from get offs have R&G frame sliders?

Probably not...

http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...41110&forum=20

Anyway I am looking at a spot for a thru fairing (drill mount) slider to add to the R&G.. This is in order to protect the lower cases...

Mock slides will be done with a piece of foam board.. If the board cant touch anything except the sliders I am good.

rest assured, plastics do not cost 4k. there was plenty of other damage and I dont think the plastic part of the bill was more than $600-700.
