Hi Folks,

following a thread on here about accessories draining the battery, I have decided to add a volt meter, as I have two home made heated jackets and am a little concerned sucking the juice out of it.

I have found a fantastic site where you can get a custom gauge made (Greengauge.com) and they look a real close match for the stockers.

I want to make a housing for it on the left below and outside the speedo.

Has anyone added any dials to their bike, and have you any tips?

For something like volts small simple solutions exist.

Tri-color LED displays driven by a simple circuit.

Green full charge. Yellow med and red low... ETC..

Sneek the led inbetween two stock gauges or inset in the middle of one face..

There are also some nice two digit digital displays..

I replaced my fuel gage with a Whistler Cruisader. In addition to the radar/laser detector it has ambient temperature and voltage readings.

Same here. Prior to that, I used a simple Martel digital meter.

That is scarily impressive. I am making it slightly difficult for myself in that I don't want to drill any holes if I can help it, so at the moment I am sculpting a mold from balsa to make a housing the looks like part of the instrument panel to the left of the speedo.

It remains to be seen if I can do it, but I have ordered the custom gauge from Greengauges.com. They really do appear to match very closely. I did spend quite some time looking for a dual fuel/volts or temp/volts gauge, but no joy!

I have some preliminary sketches and a bit of hacked balsa, but if I get further I'll add some pictures to the album.

You could order another glove box lid from bikebandit or a salvage bike and put the volt gauge on that...

Sorry MNSpintST. I didn't get a glovebox with mine :???:

I got a whole underseat space :-D

Sorry, there has to be an advantage to having the previous model!
