Hey Guys,
Going on a trip early part of next year, and am looking for suggestions about what luggage to buy for the rear of the bike (2003 Sprint ST)?

I have the Triumph Panniers, but would like a pack for the "extra's".
Anyone know if the pannier brackets will pose a problem with any particular brand of rack or fixing bracket?

Maybe it's an idea to go with Triumph's own rack and buy the bag seperately?

Your comments and recommendations please guys.
Many thanks,

I used the Triumph rack and a Givi adapter plate which allowed me to use a Givi top box. If its soft luggage you are after it might be worth looking at the ventura luggage systems.

I had the Triumph factory panniers and top box on my 99 ST and toured many, many miles with it. It worked very well and I was happy with it.

Touring on my own, I took up the space on the pillion seat with a soft bag strapped onto the grab rail/rear rack. I also had a Sargent seat with fold out luggage hooks that proved very useful for this.

I couldnt quite get these boxes to be waterproof, but I managed.

As with all these systems be careful how you pack in terms of weight distribution and dont overload or you will find your plastic cracking in all sorts of places. Excessive weight over time can also result in damage to the sub frame, but thats going to the extreme.

Brett.

If you're going solo...Ortleib Dry Duffle. Comes in small-med-large. Strap it on the back.
Been thru a downpour for hours and not a drop inside the bag.

Just fitted panniers to my St and was told by the dealer that i had to remove my Ventura rack to make them fit.
Surprise ! The ventura rack does not clash with the factory panniers at all.

OEM luggage rack with GIvi adapter and E52 topbox, along with OEM panniers:

Has worked great for me.

Hey thanks guys - sorry about the delay getting back to you all, but I thought I'd get an email to let me know I'd received a reply on the forum - not so! Must have forgotten to enable this in my profile!

Anyway, I'm going to place an order for the Ventura system, on a sale or return basis - so I'll post here with details of how I get on for others to use as a reference.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
Oh by the way, I'll be taking a pillion with me too - South Island New Zealand trip early 2007!

Regards,
Steve

Talking about luggage, does anyone know what the capacity is for the OEM panniers on the 2004 Sprint RS (same as the 2004 Sprint ST).

I'm just curious to see how they compare to what is available from someplace like Givi.

Just like nelson and DFW biker, I have used the OEM rack and an aftermarket top box. The Triumph top box is a complete joke at $1100 Australian. My R-jays one is bigger, 100% waterproof has a built in reflector and rear light and cost $149.

I must point out that my local dealer has had a few instances of the rear frame cracking on 99-04 Sprints where people have used aftermarket rear carriers (noteably a well known brand from an NZ manufacturer) or have fitted the OEM Triumph rack but have left out the two strengthening brackets. The two brackets are complicated to fit but it is ESSENTIAL to fit them, don`t be tempted to just bolt the rack on in place of the grab rail.
