hello all , and thanx in advance 4 any responses,, I have recently purchased a salvage title 01 st,,,plastics r resonable,,anyway was thinking of converting it 2 a naked bike or perhaps buying the upper rs fairing and going the minimalist route,,anyone know if the rs fairing will bolt right on and replace the st? also anyone stripped down their st? I know sounds strange,,the fairing's the appeal 4 most,I just got a screaming deal and am not a touring oriented person,,like my twisties and minimalism...
cheers

This response is not from experience, but just observations. My RS has extra holes in the frame that are plugged with rubber plugs. My opinion is they are the holes used to mount the ST fairing when used as the frames are the same. It would stand to reason that your ST frame will have similar plugged holes that would match an RS fairing. The guages will be a problem I think as my RS stuff is a minimal pod style which may need to be used with the RS's smaller dimensions. I think the wiring harness is different as well. Guys here talk about the headlight relays being under the headlight pod in the fairing and I think my RS relays are under the right side fairing below the seat. So there are issues you may have to deal with, but probably not many.

Actually I've had my lowers all off and it doesn't look bad.
Just do something creative with the headlight and ride the wheels off.

Maybe a Speed triple like dual round headlight or even a streetfigher headlight and
flyscreen kit.

I'm looking for a project bike for this winter, have seen a few wrecked ones around and
am thinking a nasty looking rat bike for fun.
I've got my eyes on a wrecked Buell , maybe a track day bike

I have taken all my plastic off, and ridden it that way for over a week, The only problem you will have is all the wires, and stuff behind the headlights.

My Sprint has no fairings on it. The obvious problems that exist are gauges and mirrors. I am using gauges from a Speed Triple. It works pretty well, except I had to place some resistors in the wiring for the tachometer because the Sprint has the resistors within the gauges, while the Triple does not. You would also have to deal with the mechanical speedometer connection. I had to buy some clamp on mirrors. I don't like them and would prefer larger mirrors, so that I can actually see. You could go with bar end mirrors, but I don't like that look. I went for the good deal as well, but am having some regrets after finding other problems. Hope some of this helps if you decide to go with the naked look. I like it and went with the bugeye headlights.

I just run the upper fairing on mine. I buzzed off the ugly stock turn signals, and mounted flush mount signals.

I have a naked RS. I got it from a buddie who got it salvage. I recently replaced the front end and had to fabricate some parts in order to relocate the speedo and tach. I love the look because it's something no one has. I always get stares, sometimes leers, but the engine roars and I'm gone. The only plastic I have on it are the sides and center rear piece, which are in crappy condition...
