Howdy folks,

My 1st post on this site after picking up my new 2006 Sprint ST1050/ABS last evening. I switched to Triumph from a 2000 K1200RS. I am looking forwrd to several years ow quality riding time with hopefully no service issues as listed on these sites. Anyhoo I have a couple questions for the group:

1)Can a battery tender be plugged into the accessory socket for charging purposes?

2) With a brand new bike, how many tanks of fuel through the system until the bike idles smoothly and " breaks-in" vs running kind of rough. Or is this a fuel mapping issue?

3) I had heated grips and bar risers installed and was wondering what is the best shiled for getting the wind over a 6' person, or at least not slamming in my chest and into my neck and inside the helmet?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to our adventure together...

Yes

How rough??? If you're looking at a MINIMUM of 8ltrs/100K fuel usage on the trip computer (or whatever the US equiv is) then you may have a breather hose blockage caused by incorrect setup. If it is just very mild surging it may be the fuel mix and as the miles increase, make sure you increase the RPM and the load on the engine. Also try a higher octane, premium fuel from a newish servo (i.e. one who's tabks are new and unlikely to be contaminated in any way).

I have the Eagle Screens touring screen see here for some pics
EagleScreens-touring screen

But I'm only 5' 10" and it is a little too tall for me. I.e I have to sit upright to get the buffetting below the bottom of the helmet. I would have been better with a double-bubble shape, but an 6' plus person is probably fine with the touring style screen.

No probs, hope we can help and good to see you on a Sprint. This forums' great if you don't mind the over abundance of us aussies with our larrikin humour - not that I'm anything but serious about my Sprint as you can see from this pic Eyes for the Road - Sprint 05/06

Enjoy the Ride, post the pics and stories - Russ

Hi and welcome to the family.I hope your ownership will be positive. I was really surprised when I rode my 2001 RS the bike was so easy to ride and smooth with plenty of torque.it's a great feeling when you don't have to worry to much about the gear your in and enough rpm's so it doesn't bog down. It's userfriendly and from what I've heard the 1050 mill is even better than the 955 engine.
On my bike I have a Givi windscreen which is taller than the oem and it also has a lip at the top which will deflect most of the wind above your head.
I'm 6'1" and can feel some buffeting when going fast but otherwise it's great.
Once again welcome to the family.

One of the Brit bike magazines recently called the engine "fluffly" at idle and I'd agree. It does smooth out some, but will always be a bit up and down. I think its just fuel mapping.

Thanks for the replies... The bike only has 7 miles on it and 6 of those are driving it home from the dealer. Snce it was late last evening and 40 degres, raining, in deer country, and the tires were not fully scrubbed in I hope to put some real miles on her this Sunday when the temps reach a balmy 50degrees F.

Welcome aboard nunzo,

This is a great site with a lot of knowledge and helpful peeps.

I won't attempt to answer your q's as mine is a 955i and didn't ever have a fluffy problem That's a modern issue

I hope you have many happy miles as I have and many others here.

Watch out for thos big brown bugs with the antlers, I understand they are a great pest on the roads in your neck of the woods.

Congratulations on the new Sprint!

Not to be contrary, but after explaining that the accessory socket is for outgoing power and not incoming, my dealer fitted the charging harness that comes with the battery tender to my battery and ran the wire out under the seat. Charging this winter will be just as easy as if I were using the accessory socket.

The idle of a triple has been described as "a cross between a top-fuel dragster and a lawnmower." I've even had other riders ask me if I have a fouled plug or bad plug wire! The rough idle is, in my opinion, one of the traits that endears the triple motor to me, just like its ability to pour torque from idle to redline! It smooths out beautifully right off of idle.

I'm 6' 2" and don't have an issue with my windscreen. If you are experiencing helmet buffeting, try squeezing the tank with your knees just a little and sitting up straighter.

Enjoy that new Sprint! There's nothing like the buzz of a brand-new Triumph!
